Neshoba County: Choctaw Culture, Country Music, and Water Parks
Accommodation in Neshoba County
The Choctaw Indian Fair takes place in Choctaw in July, bringing a recurring annual event to Neshoba County. Other highlights include Choctaw culture, country music, historic sites, and a variety of water-based activities to suit different travel interests. For planning, it’s best to decide which of these themes you want to focus on.
Culture, History, and Country Music
The Chahta Immi Cultural Center presents exhibits on Choctaw culture and historical collections. It also has an on-site gift shop. Visitors interested in culture and history can explore several aspects of both at this one location.
In Philadelphia, the Congress of Country Music combines live performances and educational programs with the cultural heritage of country music. The historic Ellis Theater is the cornerstone of its campus. The museum portion is still in development. A Mississippi Blues Trail marker in Philadelphia also commemorates Otis Rush, who was born in 1935 south of the city in Neshoba County.
The history of the Freedom Summer Murders is also marked at specific locations. A marker for the memorial to Goodman, Chaney, and Schwerner is on Highway 19 at its intersection with County Road 515, about 10 miles south of Philadelphia. The marker for the Freedom Summer Murders is at Mt. Zion Methodist Church on County Road 747 in Neshoba County, 2.2 miles from Highway 16. The Schwerner, Chaney, and Goodman Memorial Highway runs along MS 19 from the Philadelphia city limits southeast to the boundary between Neshoba County and Newton County.
Fairs and Recreation
The Choctaw Indian Fair takes place every year in July in Choctaw. The Neshoba County Fair is another annual weeklong event. In 2026, it was announced for June 19–26; its program also includes food offerings. If your trip is tied to a fair date, check the dates for your intended travel year.
Pearl River Resort offers gaming, accommodations, and recreational activities. Other leisure options in the region include golf at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club and wellness services at The Spa at the Silver Star.
Water Parks, Lakes, and Outdoor Activities
Geyser Falls Water Theme Park offers twelve large water slides, a wave pool, and a lazy river. The park covers 23 acres, including 8 acres of sandy beach. These acreage figures and the variety of water attractions give the park a different profile from Burnside Lake Water Park, which covers 115 acres and sits on an oxbow lake of the Pearl River.
Those planning walks or outdoor activities can find walking trails, camping, fishing, and a nature trail in the Philadelphia-Neshoba County Park System. Neshoba County Lake is a 138-acre state lake and is considered an exceptionally good body of water for largemouth bass. However, plan around a dated restriction for this fishing opportunity: effective January 17, 2025, fishing there was closed because of repairs to the dam and spillway; the campground and pavilion remained open at that time. Check the current status before traveling there.
Choosing a Focus for Your Stay
For planning, it helps to consider event dates, cultural sites, and recreational destinations separately: the two fairs offer different annual occasions, while the parks, lakes, and cultural sites mentioned each provide distinct destinations. First decide which places are important for your trip, then take their locations into account when choosing a hotel in Neshoba County.
