Shoreview: Parks, Ice Skating, and Tropics
Accommodation in Shoreview
Shoreview combines an extensive network of parks and open spaces with recreational activities for different seasons. If you’re looking for a hotel in Shoreview, parks, outdoor ice skating, and water activities can help you tailor your stay to your interests. An annual festival held in July and historic buildings are also among the city’s distinctive features.
Parks and Trails in Shoreview
Shoreview has 16 parks, including 11 city parks and five county parks. Together, the parks and open spaces cover more than 1,400 acres and account for 18 percent of the city’s area. These figures may change if the amount of parkland changes. More than 60 miles of trails and sidewalks connect most residential neighborhoods with parks, schools, and business areas. This makes it possible to explore not only individual parks but also the citywide trail network; its length may change as infrastructure is developed.
Seasonal Activities and Water Attractions
There are seven outdoor ice-skating rinks with staffed warming houses. All listed locations have lit areas for hockey or general skating. Since these are seasonal facilities, check current local information before visiting.
The Tropics indoor water park is located in the Shoreview Community Center. Its attractions include a large water slide, water basketball and water volleyball, floating play features, and a whirlpool. The tropical-themed Bamboo Bay pool has a zero-depth entry, slides, a tipping bucket, and spray features. It is particularly suitable for children aged ten and under. The two attractions offer different experiences: Bamboo Bay is specifically designed for this age group, while Tropics has several water activities and a whirlpool.
Festival and Other Local Highlights
Slice of Shoreview is an annual festival held in July. The program includes a carnival, a parade, an arts and crafts market, food stalls, demonstrations, entertainment, and fireworks. Dates and schedules may vary. If you’re planning to attend the festival, check the dates for the relevant year. Free outdoor concerts at Shoreview Commons are another summertime highlight, featuring a variety of music and drawing hundreds of visitors. The city describes the concert series for 2026; it is expected to return the following summer.
In the Rice Creek North Regional Trail corridor, south and west of Lexington Avenue, there is a 13-acre off-leash dog area. Heritage Park is home to the historic Guerin Gas Station and the historic Lepak-Larson House. These buildings add a point of cultural and historical interest to Shoreview, alongside its recreational and natural attractions.
