North Dartmouth: Gallery, Walks and Nature
Accommodation in North Dartmouth
North Dartmouth combines public arts offerings on campus with walks and nature observation. When planning your stay, consider what you would like to focus on: would you like a gallery visit to shape the cultural part of your trip, plan walks at Wernick Farm, or explore seasonal plant and wildlife observation?
Public Art on Campus
The CVPA Campus Gallery is located on the main campus of UMass Dartmouth, at 285 Old Westport Road in North Dartmouth. Visitor parking is available in Lots 5, 14, and 18. The gallery offers free public exhibitions, receptions, and lectures.
Exhibitions, receptions, and lectures offer different reasons to visit. If a particular exhibition or lecture is the deciding factor for your trip, check the event dates in advance.
Walks at Wernick Farm
At Wernick Farm, you can walk through wooded areas and open fields, as well as along ponds. The woods, open spaces, and ponds offer different landscape views along the way. Conditions can change; check them before your visit.
Landscape and Seasons at Ridge Hill Reserve
Ridge Hill Reserve lies mostly in wooded uplands south of Copicut Reservoir, between the Copicut and Shingle Island rivers. The parking lot is on the west side of Collins Corner Road, one mile north of Old Fall River Road. Check conditions before traveling.
The seasons offer different focuses for nature observation: in late spring, you can look for lady’s slippers; in late summer, for blueberries and huckleberries, as well as many different bird and plant species. Sightings are not guaranteed. Unlike Wernick Farm, where walks through different environments are the main focus, the wooded uplands and seasonal observations shape the nature experience here.
Wildlife Observation at Sunset
A nature account published on March 31, 2021, describes the American woodcock’s spiral courtship display at sunset in the Noquochoke Wildlife Management Area. This nature topic is therefore seasonal in a different way from the plant observations tied to specific seasons at Ridge Hill Reserve.
Recreation in Dartmouth
The pavilion at Dartmouth Regional Park and Trails is in the town of Dartmouth and can be used for family gatherings, birthday parties, cookouts, and company outings. If you are planning a gathering there, check the reservation rules in advance, as they can change.
The Barks and Tails dog park is located in Dartmouth Regional Park & Trails. Since operating details can change, check them before your visit.
The Noquochoke Wildlife Management Area in the town of Dartmouth has a large unpaved parking lot for 50 vehicles on Hixville Road. Here, too, it is a good idea to check parking conditions before driving there.
