Explore Accident through its specific offerings: recurring events, a paved loop trail, the Drane House, and the FireFly Farms Market each offer something different. If you’re planning a stay, it helps to first choose between a specific event date, outdoor activity, architectural history, or a tasting. It’s worth checking in advance for events with variable dates and for interior tours.

Events Throughout the Year

Accident’s Fourth of July Homecoming takes place on July 4. If July 4 falls on a Sunday, the celebration is held on Saturday, July 3. The event is hosted by the Accident Volunteer Fire Department and the town. The date therefore follows a clear rule, though the specific program may vary.

The Concert in the Park takes place on a Sunday in September at the pavilion in Town Park West and is hosted by the Accident Concert Band. Unlike the Homecoming, it does not have a specific calendar date: the Sunday in September may vary. Check the date if you’d like to plan your trip around the concert.

Two more dates on the calendar are the Cancer Awareness Tea on the first Saturday in October and the annual Cookie Sale on the first Saturday in December. The recurring date for the Tea is specified; check the exact day before your trip. It’s also a good idea to confirm the date of the Cookie Sale. This makes it possible to distinguish the events by their place in the year without assuming a specific program or venue.

The Drane House: History and Architecture

The Drane House was built by William Lamar in 1798. Around 1800, it was left to his sister, Priscilla Drane, and her husband, James Drane. Its architecture combines log and timber-frame construction. It also features an unusual floor plan, with a hallway flanked by rooms on either side. The building methods and room layout offer two distinct ways to appreciate the house.

The building was rebuilt and preserved at its original location, and dedicated in 1994. The Drane House can be viewed from the outside. Interior tours are available only by appointment. If you’d like to see inside, plan your tour for a time arranged in advance; viewing the exterior and touring the interior are different ways to visit.

Walking Trail and Corn Maze

The Accident Town Trail is a paved fitness and walking trail that loops around a baseball field and horseshoe pits. The loop is about half a mile long. The trail opened on September 5, 2026. Its approximate length gives you a clear idea of the loop’s scope, whether you’re using it for a walk or exercise.

The Cove-Run Farms Corn Maze offers a different way to experience a route. Questions at the intersections determine which way visitors go through the winding passages. Educational materials are also available. For the Town Trail, the roughly half-mile loop is the point of reference; in the maze, questions at the intersections guide your choice of direction.

Cheese and Specialty Foods at FireFly Farms Market

FireFly Farms Market is on US-219, Accident’s Main Street, heading toward McHenry, Wisp Resort, and the attractions at Deep Creek Lake. The market sells handmade cheese as well as other food and beverage specialties. The product selection may change.

Cheese tastings at the table are offered for groups of up to twelve people. If a tasting is part of your plans, confirm its availability before your trip. The market combines a specific food offering with a tasting option; for planning, both the changing selection and the limited group size matter.

Whether you’re planning your stay around an event date, the Drane House, the Town Trail, or the market, the relevant planning details differ. For a concert, the specific Sunday matters; for an interior visit to the Drane House, you need to arrange an appointment in advance; and for a cheese tasting, you need to confirm availability.
