When looking for a hotel in Mission, it’s worth considering the activities you’d like to include in your stay. The city offers a range of options: a shared-use trail and paths in parks, several historical connections, swimming facilities, and a seasonal market. Depending on whether you’re planning outdoor exercise, local history, swimming, or a visit to the market, your stay can take on a different focus.

Trails and Bicycle Infrastructure

The Rock Creek Trail in Mission is a 1.65-mile shared-use path that extends between the city’s eastern and western boundaries. Broadmoor Park has 0.3 miles of walking paths. Mohawk Park has a 10-foot-wide loop trail along its perimeter. These details describe different features: the Rock Creek Trail’s total length and extent, the length of the walking paths in Broadmoor Park, and the width and route of the loop trail in Mohawk Park. This can help you decide whether a stated trail length, walking paths in a park, or a trail along a park boundary is relevant to your plans. Lamar Avenue has bike lanes and sharrows between Foxridge Drive and Shawnee Mission Parkway. If you plan to cycle along this stretch, check current conditions locally; bicycle infrastructure may change.

Traces of Local History

A wagon road was established between Independence, Missouri, and Santa Fe, New Mexico, and passed through Mission. The route included two resting or watering places in the vicinity of 5920 Maple and 6201 W. 61st Terrace. Mission was originally called Mission Hill Acres. In 1926, the Breyfogel family subdivided the suburb into 245 lots and offered them for sale. Two themes stand out in the area’s history: the wagon road through Mission and its watering places, and the subdivision of the suburb into lots in 1926.

Swimming Options

The Powell Community Center has an indoor pool. The Mission Family Aquatic Center offers water slides, diving boards, swimming lanes, and a sprayground. Schedules for the indoor pool may change; the Mission Family Aquatic Center operates seasonally, and its schedule may change. Check current hours before planning a visit.

Mission Market and Seasonal Dates

The Mission Market is a recurring summer market. For its 12th season in 2026, Thursdays in June, July, and August from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. were planned. Broadmoor Park, 5701 Broadmoor Street, at Mission’s western end, was planned as a temporary venue. That season’s market offerings included fresh produce, products from local vendors, and food vendors. A 2021 article describes bands and musicians as entertainment at the Mission Market. If you’re including the market in your travel plans, check the dates and location for the year of your visit.
