Stays in Lenexa can be tailored to different interests: parks, fishing and disc golf are complemented by historic buildings, a market and a festival. If you’re looking for a hotel, first consider which of these themes you want your trip to focus on; then you can check specific offers for your travel dates.

Parks, Water and Recreation

Black Hoof Park covers 231 acres and includes the 35-acre deep-water lake, Lake Lenexa. Visitors can fish at Lake Lenexa; the lake is stocked with channel catfish, black crappie, bluegill, sunfish and largemouth bass. The park thus combines a large green space with a named body of water where fishing is possible.

The Evan Knaus Memorial Tree Walk offers a different way to experience nature. Nearly three dozen trees there are identified with plaques. The plaques show typical leaves and list key characteristics. Anyone interested in looking at trees by their leaves will find visual references and additional information about the marked species here. This focus differs from fishing at Lake Lenexa: here the emphasis is on leaves and tree characteristics, while there it is on fishing.

Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park has jogging and walking paths around Rose’s Pond. The pond is therefore a named landmark for both activities. If you’re planning a run or a walk, you can use this location to orient yourself in the park.

Lenexa has three disc golf courses. A 9-hole course is located in Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park; Black Hoof Park has both a 9-hole and an 18-hole course. If the number of holes matters to your plans, you can distinguish them by location and course size.

Historic Sites in Lenexa

Lenexa’s historic complex in Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park includes the Legler Barn, the Lenexa Train Depot, the Strang Line Waiting Station and a replica of a 1900s-era bandstand. The ensemble therefore comprises various structures and a bandstand replica, not just a single historic building.

The Legler Barn was built in 1864 and reconstructed at its present location in 1983. The two dates mark different stages in its building history: its original construction and its later reconstruction. The restored Lenexa Train Depot displays artifacts from the history of transportation and railroads. The barn’s story centers on its construction and reconstruction, while the depot’s exhibits convey history.

Lenexa’s original town center is also a historic landmark. It includes many buildings that are over 100 years old. This means that Lenexa’s past extends beyond the individual features of the historic complex.

Market and Events

The Lenexa Farmers Market sells only products that were locally grown or raised, or made within 250 miles or anywhere in Kansas. This origin rule covers both locally produced goods and items manufactured within the stated limits. Since seasonal dates and vendor participation can vary, check the latest information before visiting.

The family-oriented Lenexa Spinach Festival features food, music, entertainment, activities and arts and crafts booths. If you’re including the festival in your travel plans, check the event date in advance.
