Sandwich offers several starting points for planning your trip: natural areas and a trail at Harvey Creek Conservation Area, collections and mill history at the Stone Mill Museum, and the history of the Sandwich Fair. These topics offer different points of focus and can help you tailor your trip to your interests. The Splash Park is another named recreational destination; it is closed until further notice.

Natural Areas and a Trail at Harvey Creek

Harvey Creek Conservation Area is in the southeastern corner of Sandwich on Lions Road, near the Indian Valley Vocational Center. Its 30 acres (about 12.1 hectares) include wetlands and prairie grasses. These two landscape features give the area a tangible connection to nature, while its size provides a sense of scale. Lions Road and the nearby vocational center pinpoint its location within Sandwich. If nature is a factor in choosing your destinations, the Conservation Area offers a clearly identified place with specific habitats.

The Tim Rediger Memorial Trail runs along the edge of the park. It is a walking trail created in memory of Tim Rediger, with recreational and educational purposes. A 12-foot (about 3.7-meter) bridge crosses an inlet to Harvey Creek and completes the trail’s loop. The memorial dedication and the bridge give the trail different points of reference: its name commemorates Tim Rediger, while the crossing over the inlet forms part of the loop route. The trail thus combines its commemorative significance with its explicitly stated recreational and educational purpose.

Museum, Mill, and Fair

The Stone Mill Museum houses the collections of the Sandwich Historical Society. The Stone Mill opened in 1856 as the Sandwich Steam Mill. These details offer two ways to explore local history: the collection gives context to the museum’s role, while 1856 dates the mill’s opening under that name. The distinction may be useful when deciding what interests you, since the museum’s holdings and the mill’s historic opening answer different questions. The collection and mill history are therefore distinct points of interest for a historically focused stay.

The first Sandwich Fair was held in 1888; the fairgrounds are also in Sandwich. Together with the Stone Mill’s opening in 1856, this gives two dates to compare: one marks the start of the fair, and the other the opening of the mill. If the fair is important to your stay, check the current event dates in advance.

Splash Park and Trip Planning

The Splash Park features 13 different spray features across a 1,800-square-foot area of wet concrete (about 167 square meters). According to a notice dated August 22, 2026, the facility is closed until further notice. If you are considering the park as an activity, check its current status before visiting.
