Agriculture and Architectural History
The Tift County Courthouse is one of Georgia’s few courthouses in the Beaux-Arts Classical style. Its sculpted lion heads are a distinctive feature. At the Georgia Museum of Agriculture, the Historic Village takes you back to another era: it reconstructs 19th-century shops, workshops, and homes, and conveys the agricultural and cultural traditions of the American South. The Ford B. Spinks Exhibit Hall focuses on the history of Georgia’s agricultural products and cultural history.
Other exhibits bring the story up to date: Destination Ag offers interactive learning about modern agriculture and natural resources. The Langdale Nature Center provides hands-on learning about the flora and wildlife of South Georgia. The museum’s Country Store sells locally made preserves and Georgia Grown products.
Tifton is accessible via I-75. To reach the Georgia Museum of Agriculture, take Exit 63B; from the turnoff, follow the access road to the Country Store parking lot. The paths in the Historic Village are unpaved, and accessibility to the interiors varies.
Museums, Theater, and Festivals in Tifton
The Museum of Arts & Heritage is housed in a church built in 1901, the city’s first brick building. The Tift Theatre opened in 1937 and combines Art Deco design with Carrara glass and neon lights. The theater has 650 seats; its program includes stage performances, concerts, festivals, and films. At the Tifton Terminal Railroad Museum, a working model shows downtown Tifton in the 1970s and 1980s.
The festivals also offer a range of experiences. The Arts in Black Festival features music, dance, food, arts and crafts, a parade, storytelling performances, and educational activities for children. La Fiesta del Pueblo celebrates Latin American heritage with music, dance, and cuisine. Both events are described as annual. Nature and Outdoor Activities
The Coastal Plain Research Arboretum is a living collection of plants native to the southeastern United States. Covering 38 acres, the collection includes azaleas, hollies, oaks, and hickory trees. The Paradise Public Fishing Area spans Tift and Berrien counties: its 60 lakes cover a total of 525 acres.
There are other specific options for outdoor activity, too. The Tift County Recreation Department has eight uncovered asphalt pickleball courts; the courts are free to use, and the facility includes restrooms and lighting. Fulwood Park has a paved, lit walking path about 800 meters long, with information about the landscaping.
Agriculture and Seasonal Offerings
Agricultural diversity is part of the region’s character: Tift County produces or grows vegetables, field crops, forage and ornamental plants, livestock, forestry products, fruit, and nuts. Tift County is one of Georgia’s most agriculturally diverse counties. In the broader Tifton and Tift County area, 50 agricultural products are produced in Georgia; the region is known as the “Plant Center of the World.”
