Experiences between Aviation and Nature

Henry brings together a diverse range of themes for trip planning: aviation, train watching, agriculture, nature and seasonal market offerings. You can plan your stay around a specific experience rather than treating every reason to visit alike. Timing is especially important: pick-your-own offerings follow the seasons and growing conditions, while flight and tour dates depend on availability.

Flights, Museum and Track Tours

The Army Aviation Heritage Foundation offers flights in an authentic Vietnam-era UH-1 Huey helicopter. Flights in an AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter are also available, accompanied by experienced veteran pilots. You can choose between a Vietnam-era Huey flight and a Cobra ride. Flight dates and availability may change; check the offerings before making firm plans to fly.

If you would rather focus on an exhibit than a flight, the Veterans Museum at Heritage Park has a restored Bell UH-1 Huey. Guided track tours are offered at EchoPark Speedway; their dates depend on track availability. Here, too, it is helpful to check for a suitable date before your trip.

Another focus is train watching: the Locust Grove Train Watching Platform offers a front-row seat to watch more than 40 freight trains pass through town each day. While a guided track tour is the main attraction at the speedway, the platform is all about watching freight traffic go by.

Nature and Trails along the Towaliga River

Cubihatcha protects nearly 1,000 acres of forests, wetlands and natural habitats. The Cubihatcha Outdoor Center offers a seven-mile loop trail along the Towaliga River. The trail and its connection to the river give visitors a specific point of reference if they want to make a trail the focus of their nature experience; trail conditions may change, so check them before your visit.

Alternatively, the Center offers guided nature tours with an on-site naturalist. If you would like to plan one of these tours, check whether a date is available. The offerings therefore differ in format: on the loop trail, the length and route set the scope, while on the guided tour a naturalist accompanies you on your nature experience.

Harvests and Seasonal Markets

Southern Belle Farm is a 330-acre agricultural operation in McDonough. Its seasonal offerings include pick-your-own produce: strawberries in spring, peaches, blackberries and blueberries in summer, and pumpkins in fall. Which fruit is actually available depends on growing conditions. The seasonal sequence helps you plan your farm visit for a suitable time.

The Farmer's Market is held at the Jason T. Harper Arena in Heritage Park. In 2026, its season ran from June through August; check the dates for later travel years. Offerings include local fruits and vegetables, baked goods, honey, plants, pet treats and handmade crafts. Taste of Henry is coordinated each year by a team of dedicated volunteers from A Friend's House.
