At Reed Bingham State Park, a 375-acre lake, trails and wildlife-viewing opportunities come together. Moultrie, located in Colquitt County in southern Georgia, also offers ways to explore culture and enjoy walks. Nearby Moultrie, you can also find experiences shaped by agriculture. This means you can get to know Colquitt County through nature, history, outdoor activities or seasonal offerings, depending on your travel interests.

Nature and Trails at Reed Bingham State Park

The lake at Reed Bingham State Park covers 375 acres, and canoes and kayaks are available to rent in the park. Eight trails, totaling seven miles, are open from sunrise to sunset. All trails are open to hikers and cyclists. This makes it possible to combine wildlife watching and exercise without having to use every route in the same way.

The Coastal Plain Nature Trail also offers a botanical perspective on the region: almost 80 percent of the Coastal Plain’s plant community is represented along the trail. Wildlife-viewing opportunities include gopher tortoises, yellow-bellied turtles, indigo snakes and Mississippi alligators. Bald eagles are another seasonal sighting. If you hope to see particular animals or plants, consider these opportunities part of your nature experience, not a guaranteed sighting.

For those traveling by car, the park’s location is a useful point of reference: it is less than six miles from Interstate 75. This is a distance, not a driving time. The park can therefore be a destination in its own right for a trip focused on trails, the lake and wildlife.

Walking and Cycling Trails in Moultrie

Tom White Linear Park has 7.2 miles of trails for walking, cycling and jogging, stretching from downtown Moultrie to the municipal airport. Trail signs are available in English and Spanish. Main Street Park offers a shorter option: its walking trail is 0.25 miles long, and there is also a shaded playground. Comparing the lengths can help you plan whether you would prefer a longer route or a short walk.

Its collections include artifacts of Indigenous peoples of the Americas and memorabilia from the American Civil War; it also has a permanent exhibit on the Colquitt County Sports Hall of Fame.

The original gallows is still on the third floor. The Arts Center is housed in the former Moultrie High School building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The center stages theatrical productions featuring local talent throughout the year and also offers classes in dance, music and art.

Moultrie’s sporting history includes the Moose Moss Aquatic Center, which became a training site for six Olympic teams. The Moose Moss Diving Facility has a 10-meter platform and a heated diving pool. The Memorial Pool is a heated, 10-lane competition pool; the Lynda Baxter Moseley Tennis Complex has six lighted tennis courts.
