Altamonte Springs: Nature, Trails and Sports
Accommodation in Altamonte Springs
Recreational activities in Altamonte Springs include waterfront trails, a nature preserve, the river landscape along the Little Wekiva River, a paved trail, water sports, sports facilities and events. If you’re looking for hotels for your stay, these interests can help you organize your daily itinerary. The locations vary in trail length, scenery and type of activity.
Trails, Nature and Scenery
Cranes Roost Lake is surrounded by a continuous one-mile path with benches and covered seating areas. Compared with the nearly 14-mile Seminole Wekiva Trail, it’s the shorter route for a walk by the water.
Lake Lotus Park is a nature preserve operated by the City of Altamonte Springs. The “Animal Encounter & Nature Walk” program includes interactive animal encounters and interpretive nature walks led by park rangers. Program dates vary by season. Check current dates and registration information before planning your visit.
Merrill Park is set in a scenic area with old-growth trees along the Little Wekiva River. It contrasts with Lake Lotus Park in its different focus: here, the river landscape and tree cover define the area, while the nature preserve and seasonal nature program are the highlights there. If scenery matters when choosing your destinations, these features offer a practical guide.
Trails and Water Activities
The Seminole Wekiva Trail is a nearly 14-mile paved recreational trail. The San Sebastian Trailhead is located along the trail at 753 W SR 436 in Altamonte Springs. Together with the Cross Seminole Trail, the Seminole Wekiva Trail is part of the Florida Coast-to-Coast Trail, a continuous paved multi-use trail through Florida from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico.
The Lake Orienta Boat Ramp is a 1.5-acre picnic and recreation area with access to Lake Orienta. The lake covers 141 acres and is available for fishing, water skiing and other water sports. The two have different uses: the area is for picnics and recreation, while the lake offers the water activities listed above.
Events and Sports
The Eddie Rose Amphitheater at Cranes Roost Park has stadium-style seating and a floating stage. The park hosts weekly, monthly and annual events. If a particular date is important for your trip, check the current events calendar in advance.
Eastmonte Park has four indoor, air-conditioned racquetball courts and six lighted baseball fields. Three of the baseball fields have artificial turf infields. The sports facilities can be distinguished by sport and amenities: for racquetball, the defining features are the indoor courts and air conditioning; for baseball, they are the lighting and artificial turf infields.
