Jupiter: Lighthouse, Beaches and River Ecosystems
Accommodation in Jupiter
Those planning a stay in Jupiter can focus on a range of attractions: the active Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse, various stretches of beach, the Loxahatchee River Center, or the Jupiter Waterway Trail. The Cracker Farmstead in Riverbend Park is another place to visit. When looking for a hotel, it helps to first decide which visits you want to shape your stay. Specific differences matter: a program is available for climbing the lighthouse, rules apply to dogs and their owners at Jupiter Dog Beach, and the River Center combines several types of exhibits featuring different aquatic ecosystems.
The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse
The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse remains an active public navigation aid. Its first-order Fresnel lens is one of only 13 lenses of this type still in use in the United States. The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum gives visitors access to the lighthouse and provides historical context. The program includes climbing 105 steps and watching the sunset from above; program availability may vary. If you want to plan your visit around the climb or sunset, check before your visit whether this program is being offered.
Beaches and visiting conditions
The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area covers 120 acres in northern Palm Beach County and features diverse natural and cultural resources. The area includes an 800-foot stretch of beach. Jupiter Beach Park has 1,700 feet of guarded beach. Jupiter Dog Beach is 2.5 miles long and extends from dune crossover marker No. 26 to No. 57. At Jupiter Dog Beach, well-behaved, obedient, and well-socialized dogs may visit with their responsible owners from sunrise to sunset; dogs can play and swim there off leash. These measurements help distinguish the beach destinations: the 800-foot stretch within the natural area, 1,700 feet of guarded beach in the park, and the 2.5-mile Dog Beach with marked endpoints.
River ecosystems and other places to visit
The Loxahatchee River Center is located in Burt Reynolds Park on US 1, north of Indiantown Road. Living aquariums, interactive exhibits, and a touch tank showcase ecosystems ranging from freshwater cypress swamps to a seagrass-dominated estuary and marine ecosystems. This sequence highlights the transition between these habitats. Individual exhibits may be under maintenance. If a particular feature is important to your visit, check in advance whether it is available. The Cracker Farmstead in Riverbend Park is another place to visit.
Jupiter Waterway Trail
The Jupiter Waterway Trail is a series of routes connecting the Loxahatchee River, the Intracoastal Waterway, and Jupiter Inlet. Unlike a single point of interest such as the lighthouse, the trail is designed as a sequence of routes linking three waterways. For your planning, this is a different type of excursion: the focus is on connecting waterways, rather than on a single activity.
