Laguna Woods: Nature, Trails and Local History
Accommodation in Laguna Woods
Nature, local history and culture give your trip to Laguna Woods a variety of focal points. Places range from a natural open space and walking trails to a theater and facilities at Laguna Woods Village. The details of each can help you choose activities that suit your interests.
Trails and Open Spaces
Woods End Wilderness Preserve encompasses 10.6 acres of natural open space. The trail that begins at the entrance to the preserve provides close access to James Dilley Greenbelt Preserve and Barbara’s Lake. Woods End Trailhead reopened on May 5, 2026; check its current operating status before you arrive.
A larger regional option is Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, accessible via Woods End in Laguna Woods. It has more than 40 miles of trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. The 10.6 acres refer to the area of Woods End Wilderness Preserve, while the more than 40 miles refer to the trails in Laguna Coast Wilderness Park. This distinction helps clarify the difference between the open space and the extent of the regional trail network.
Other places for a walk or time with your dog offer different features: City Centre Park has a walking trail. “A Place for Paws” Dog Park offers opportunities for dogs to run off leash and socialize.
