When looking for hotels in Hermosa Beach, you can plan your trip around specific local highlights: the coast and pier, sports facilities, or cultural venues and events. The Strand also connects the city to a long cycling route.

Coast, Pier, and The Strand

Hermosa Beach has nearly two miles of ocean coastline; the public beach covers 94 acres. The current structure of the Hermosa Beach Pier was built in 1965. The pier is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., but weather or other conditions may cause temporary closures. If you plan to visit the pier, check the latest notices for possible closures.

The pier extends 1,140 feet from The Strand toward the Pacific. The Strand is also part of the 22-mile Marvin Braude Bike Trail, which runs from Torrance County Beach to Pacific Palisades. Hermosa Beach is therefore home to both a single coastal structure and a section of a longer cycling route.

Surfing and Beach Sports

Surfing is one of the defining outdoor activities in Hermosa Beach culture. The city has 71 permitted beach volleyball courts; the number may change. All beach volleyball courts on the beach are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Usage rules may be updated, so check the latest notices before your visit.

The beach tennis courts are north of the pier, between 10th and 15th Streets on the beach. Outside of reserved activities, you can use the courts on a first-come, first-served basis. Rules for reserved use may change.

Surf Culture, Museum, and Theater

The Surfer’s Walk of Fame was established in 2003 to honor each year the individuals and groups who have contributed to surfing in Hermosa Beach. The Hermosa Beach Museum complements this cultural perspective with collections of artworks, books, ephemera, photographs, and material cultural objects. The museum also offers school tours, educational lectures, and rotating special exhibitions.

Fiesta Hermosa and Travel Planning

Fiesta Hermosa is a community tradition that has welcomed Southern California residents to Hermosa Beach for more than 50 years. The festival includes four stages with live entertainment, as well as a Food Fair and a Dessert Depot. The program and food offerings may vary from one edition to the next, so coordinate your travel dates with the event schedule.

For local transportation, BCT Line 109 connects Riviera Village, Hermosa, Manhattan, El Segundo, the Green Line stations, and the LAX Bus Center. The route may change; check the latest service information for your travel date.
