Westlake Village lies in the northern foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains. The Simi Hills frame the area to the north and the Santa Monica Mountains to the south.

Parks and Outdoor Trails

Westlake Village Community Park spans 18 acres and is open daily from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The park is also home to Westlake Village Skate Park, which is open daily from dawn to dusk. Check the respective opening hours before your visit. The Wishbone Trail, managed by the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency, is located above Community Park.

Triunfo Creek Park is located in the wider rural Agoura-Westlake area. Dense oak woodlands, native grasslands and wildflowers blooming in spring define its landscape. The park’s Pentachaeta Trail is named after Pentachaeta lyonii, a flower found there that is federally listed as endangered. The trail’s name thus also points to a distinctive local plant.

Golf and Events

Westlake Golf Course offers a lighted driving range with 40 hitting stations. Tee times can be booked for groups of at least two players up to one week in advance; check the booking requirements before your visit. The course’s history also includes its architect: Ted Robinson built the golf course in 1967.

The annual 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular takes place at Westlake Golf Course and features food, music and activities for the whole family. The annual 4th of July Parade invites people to walk or ride their bikes and ends with a festival at Berniece Bennett Park. The City Celebration is an annual community event at the City of Westlake Village Civic Center. Details may vary from year to year; check the event dates and program before making plans.

History and Culture

A Chumash village is believed to have stood on the site of present-day Westlake Village. Ongoing excavations, archaeological sites and polychrome rock paintings in the surrounding area offer insight into the social and economic complexity of the ancient Chumash world. The Albertson Company used an extensive property as a movie ranch.

Another place to visit is the Westlake Village Library. It opened in February 2002 and covers 10,250 square feet. Its facilities include study rooms and electronic workstations; a bookstore is operated by the Friends of the Westlake Village Library.

A Note About Westlake Lake

Westlake Lake is private. Fishing is permitted only for people who can show a current WLMA fishing permit. If fishing is part of your plans, check the permit requirements in advance.
