Accommodation in Fosters
Choose from different focuses for your stay in Fosters, including water, nature observation and local history. The named boat facilities, Foster Loop Road and specific historical dates offer various points of interest.
Boat facilities and directions
Foster’s Ferry Public Boat Ramp is a public boat ramp on the Warrior River in Fosters, located directly off U.S. Highway 43. Fosters Boat Landing is on Fosters Landing Lane in Fosters, Alabama. The directions differ: the river and highway are reference points for the Ferry ramp, while the Boat Landing is identified by its street address. If you plan to use the Ferry ramp, check current access before your visit.
Another planning option
Fosters Multipurpose Field at the Fosters Sports Complex is a rentable facility. If the field is relevant to your stay, confirm rental details and the date directly. This lets you consider it as a separate planning item, independently of the water and nature themes.
Foster Loop Road and birdwatching
Foster Loop Road in Tuscaloosa County is partly paved and partly unpaved, and ends at US 43/11. A route description published in 2014 notes these features; road conditions and access may change. Check current conditions before driving there. You can also observe birds in a diverse landscape along Foster Loop Road in Tuscaloosa County: the habitats described include fields, pine plantations, wetlands, cypress swamps and mixed forests. The bird and habitat description also dates from 2014; seasonal wildlife conditions vary. When planning around this nature theme, both road conditions and the time of year matter.
Early local history
A historical marker from the Alabama Historical Association dates the founding of Grant’s Creek Baptist Church in Fosters to April 5, 1828. It also mentions the Grant’s Creek Sunday School Union, founded in December 1827 and described as Alabama’s oldest Sunday school. The marker further records that, beginning in 1818, four sons of Col. John and Elizabeth Savidge Foster settled in Fosters. The settlement beginning in 1818, the founding of the Union in December 1827 and the founding of the church in April 1828 are therefore in clear chronological order. Ten years elapsed between the start of settlement in 1818 and the founding of the church in 1828.
The nature and history themes also differ in what you should focus on when planning: seasonal wildlife conditions vary for birdwatching, while local history can be understood through specific dates. If you’re planning your trip around nature interests, take the time of year into account. For a history-focused visit, the sequence of settlement and founding dates provides a chronological framework.
