Trüllikon is a municipality in the Andelfingen district of the Canton of Zurich, Switzerland. The municipality comprises the local districts of Trüllikon, Rudolfingen and Wildensbuch and extends across the Zurich wine region. The Mederbach, also known as the Trüllikerbach, flows through the village of Trüllikon. To help plan your stay, you can combine several themes here: a hiking route featuring a lake, tall standard fruit trees and vineyards; a viewpoint with far-reaching views; and the historic buildings in the local district of Rudolfingen.

Hiking and views

The “Wanderbänkli Trüllikon” hiking route passes Lake Husemersee, tall standard fruit trees and vineyards on its way to Trüllikon. Along the way, it links a named lake with trees and wine-growing areas; these specific landscape features give the hike a clear connection to the Zurich wine region. If you would like to include a hike in your travel plans, you can make this route an outdoor activity during your stay.

The 37-metre-high Hochwacht Wildensbuch observation tower offers a different perspective. From there, you can look towards the Zurich wine region, the Randen, Hegau, Lake Constance and the Alps. While the hiking route takes in individual landscape features along the way, the tower offers views across several regions. This gives you a clear choice when planning your trip: a hike along a route featuring specific landscape elements, or a viewpoint overlooking the areas named above.

The Waldlehrpfad nature trail is also located near the Wildensbuch tower. The Trüllikon municipal nature conservation commission has renovated it and added new stations. If you plan to include the trail in your itinerary, check its current condition before your visit.

Rudolfingen and its buildings

Rudolfingen is a compact, small farming and wine-growing village in a completely unspoilt location at the foot of a slope. An extensive vineyard lies behind the village, while open farmland stretches out in the foreground. The layered setting of village, vineyard and fields gives a tangible shape to the agricultural character of the village: winegrowing and farmland are visibly part of the same landscape here.

Rudolfingen is also home to exceptionally well-preserved, regionally characteristic farmhouses and winegrowers’ houses from the 17th to the 19th centuries, including striking exposed half-timbered buildings. One notable example is the double barn: a long, imposing half-timbered building with a hip roof and segmental-arched gates, dating from 1807/39. Segmental-arched gates have a gently curved upper edge; this feature describes a specific detail of the barn, alongside its length and roof. The Zuber Landrichter estate represents a different type of building. The late Neoclassical residential house, built in 1853, has two central projections and a shallow hip roof. Central projections are sections of a façade that extend slightly outward from the middle; at Zuber, they are among the defining details of the building, together with the roof. The contrast between the barn and the residential house gives a sense of the range of local architecture without reducing the buildings to a single half-timbered motif.

The historic village setting also includes the former civil parish hall. It is a small half-timbered building dating from 1795, with a large rooftop turret dated 1890.
