Grens lies between Lake Geneva and the foothills of the Jura and has retained its agricultural character. Its history stretches from a medieval parish village to its own coat of arms and historic buildings. Alongside local history, the sports facilities and Studio Prana Santé offer specific opportunities for physical activity; the wider Nyon region adds seasonal excursions to this selection.

Rural character and location

Grens has 230 hectares of agricultural land used for various crops, including fruit growing and winegrowing. This agricultural use continues to shape the overall character of the village. Together with its location between Lake Geneva and the foothills of the Jura, this gives a clear picture of Grens: a village with a rural character in a geographical setting that stretches from the lake to the Jura.

Church, Seigneurie and coat of arms

In the 13th century, Grens was a parish village with a church dedicated to Saint Peter. The area belonged to the Seigneurie of Gingins for a long time before it was separated in the 17th century and became its own seigneurie. In the 18th century, this independent seigneurie was owned by the La Fléchère family.

Grens adopted its coat of arms in 1919. It features the keys of Saint Peter and the enamel colours of the Counts of La Fléchère. In this way, the two motifs bring together the church’s dedication and the later history of lordship in the village coat of arms.

La Grange Rouge

In the village centre stands La Grange Rouge, a former agricultural outbuilding of Bonmont Abbey, built in 1607. From 1980, it was restored as a family home with a midwifery practice; a birthing centre was added in 1999. Its construction and use can thus be traced through several clearly dated stages: from an agricultural outbuilding to a family home with a practice, and then to the addition of the birthing centre.

Sport and physical activity in Grens

Following its redesign in 2025, the sports facilities include a football pitch, a pétanque court, a 3-on-3 basketball court and a street workout area. There is also a table tennis table and a picnic area. Next to the municipal building, there is also a playground with an area for socialising and play.
