Veysonnaz is connected to the Les 4 Vallées ski area and also offers winter trails, sections along bisses and activities in forests and alpine meadows. When looking for a hotel, you can plan your trip around whether slopes and winter routes, local history or summer trails are your priority. The village’s division into the resort, village and hamlet also helps you make sense of location details.

Ski area and winter routes

The Les 4 Vallées ski area connected to Veysonnaz has 412 kilometres of pistes and 82 lifts. These infrastructure figures may change if facilities are modified. The Piste de l’Ours above Veysonnaz hosts World Cup races; specific dates vary.

For winter excursions, the time estimates and elevation profiles differ. The Veysonnaz Touring Tracks start just outside the village on the road to Mayens de l’Ours. The ascent takes about two hours and covers 740 metres of elevation gain; the route depends on snow and piste conditions. The Veysonnaz–Thyon snowshoe trail is 5.8 kilometres long, takes around 3 hours and 40 minutes, and has 770 metres of elevation gain. The time given for the Touring Tracks is for the ascent, while the time for the snowshoe trail is for the route. This helps you compare the different time commitments without treating the two figures as equivalent.

The snowshoe trail is accessible by public transport and offers a viewpoint. Check accessibility and route conditions before setting out. Snow and piste conditions are the deciding factors for the Touring Tracks.

Village layout, history and bisses

The municipality of Veysonnaz extends across three levels: the resort connected to Les 4 Vallées is at the top, Veysonnaz village is in the middle, and the hamlet of Beauperrier is at the bottom. These terms refer to different parts of the municipality. From 1264, Veysonnaz village was a barony of the prelate of Sion; the municipality was founded in 1768. The present-day church of Veysonnaz was built in 1908 in the neo-Gothic style. It was renovated between 1962 and 1968.

The Grand Bisse de Vex runs between Veysonnaz and Les Mayens-de-Sion through a shaded, tree-lined section. Larch trees in particular keep the air cool there; their fallen needles form a soft carpet on the paths. Bisses are historic irrigation channels with a very gentle gradient. They carried water from the torrents on the valley floor to the villages on the slopes so that crops could be irrigated.

Along the Bisse de Vex between Veysonnaz and Le Chity, there is a treasure hunt with eight clue boxes. The walk takes about an hour; the activity may vary by season. If this activity is important to your trip plans, check in advance whether it is available during your visit.

Activities in different seasons

The indoor swimming pool in Veysonnaz is open in summer and winter. The pool is 10 metres wide and 20 metres long. Since opening hours and access conditions may change, it is advisable to check for current information before visiting. There are tennis courts at Ramuge and Magrappé; Magrappé is lit and can also be used at night. Court availability depends on the season, so you should check access.

In the Botza forest, below the tennis courts, there are two freely accessible pétanque courts. Pétanque balls can be rented from the Veysonnaz tourist office; check current rental options if needed. This makes it possible to distinguish the indoor pool, tennis and pétanque options by activity and season without assuming that the conditions at each location are the same.

For summer outings, the Veysonnaz–Thyon–Siviez mountain bike and e-bike loop starts in the area in front of the tourist office on the road towards Mayens de l’Ours and passes through alpine meadows and forests. Guided descents on all-terrain scooters pass through alpine meadows and mayens; they require a reservation and depend on the lifts being in operation. The Thyon–Veysonnaz hiking trail follows the seasonal route taken by local herds through pastures and alpine meadows.

The Combire–Meina trail starts in front of the Hôtel Magrappé and leads from Veysonnaz resort at 1,350 metres to Greppon Blanc at 2,671 metres. It is not specifically signposted for trail running. If you use it for this purpose, follow the hiking trail markers and consult the trail map.
