Eischoll combines its location on the southern slope of the RhĂ´ne Valley with village history, nature trails and winter sports. The village lies on a terrace at around 1,220 metres above sea level; the municipal area extends up to the 2,910-metre-high Signalhorn summit. The elevations refer to different areas: the village and the municipal area. Many buildings in Eischoll are protected monuments and contribute to the character of a typical Swiss mountain village.

Village Center, Guided Tours and History

The “Anno Dazumal” guided tour takes you through the old village center and to the village church; advance booking is required. Eischoll also offers village tours for small and larger groups. The content is tailored to participants’ interests, and these tours must also be booked in advance.

At the village museum, you can see, among other things, an old turbine that was used to generate electricity in the village for the first time, as well as old household items and a loom. Access is limited outside scheduled opening hours or booked guided tours. You should therefore plan your visit around the available opening hours or a guided tour.

The name of the Wolf Trail also refers to local history: in 1946, the last wolf in Valais for the time being was shot between Eischoll and Ergisch. This event connects the trail’s name to a specific historical reference in the surrounding area, while the protected buildings shape the village center.

Trails Through Forests and Suonen

The Meisenweg runs along the eastern side of the village towards Habere. Along the way, it passes suonen, offers views of the mountains and winds through dense fir forest. There are eight hidden stations with punchers along the trail. The route therefore combines scenic views with stops to discover along the way.

Eischoll is known as the “Home of the Light Flower” because lilac-colored blossoms are especially abundant and widespread there. Blooming conditions vary by season. The Light Flower Trail starts in the village square and leads via Langen Acker, Muntertrog and Oberhäusern. It then follows a suone in a wide loop back to Eischoll. The Meisenweg focuses on forest, suonen and views; the Light Flower Trail takes its character from its blossoms and the circular route described here.

Other trail options extend beyond the village: the moderately difficult Lufu Trail leads from the top station of the Raron–Eischoll aerial cableway in Eischoll to the bottom station in Raron. Another trail runs west of Eischoll via Tschorr to Steg-Gampel. The 260-metre-long Milibach suspension bridge connects the mountain villages of Unterbäch and Eischoll.

Winter Sports and Mountain Lifts

The Eischoll ski area offers 15 kilometres of pistes. With the Strygge-Erez ski lift and the connecting pistes to Unterbäch, the total offer comprises 35 kilometres of pistes and seven lifts. The totals and the lifts may change; check these details before planning your days on the slopes.

For sledging, a three-kilometre descent runs from Strygge down to the village of Eischoll. Its availability in winter depends on operating conditions. The Winter Romance snowshoe trail is a circular route from Strygge via Sengg, Undri Sengalp, Tschorr, Obri Sengalp and Meigge, and back to Strygge. Conditions on this snowshoe route can also change.

The chairlift starts in Eischoll at 1,260 metres above sea level and ends at Stryggen at 1,560 metres above sea level; it operates seasonally according to the timetable. The Raron–Eischoll aerial cableway is separate: it has connected Eischoll with the valley floor since 1946 and operates year-round according to the timetable. Before planning, check the relevant timetable and, for winter activities, the stated operating conditions.

Playgrounds and Barbecue Areas

Eischoll has four purpose-built playgrounds as well as barbecue areas. One playground, accessible with a stroller, is located right next to a hiking trail and has an official Swiss Family fire pit. This spot can therefore be included as a stop in its own right alongside the trails and winter sports activities, without associating it with a particular section of trail.
