Torgon as a mountain destination

Torgon is a holiday destination in the municipality of Vionnaz, in the district of Monthey, in the French-speaking part of the canton of Valais in Switzerland. The village centre lies at 1,085 metres above sea level. Torgon is associated with a panorama stretching from Lake Geneva to the Dents du Midi and Mont Blanc. Torgon can be reached from Vionnaz via a third-class road. Check current road conditions before setting off.

Hiking and cycling

Torgon's hiking trail network comprises 45.5 kilometres of hiking trails and 11 kilometres of mountain trails. There are also numerous themed trails around the village, where families can combine sport and culture. The e-bike offering is organised differently: the Torgon E-Bike Park has eight signposted routes and extends for more than 100 kilometres through Portes du Soleil. The routes include connections to neighbouring French and Swiss holiday destinations. Information about trails, the number of routes and network length may be updated as the network changes. Check current route information when planning a specific outing.

The two offerings can be distinguished by their scope: the hiking trail network lists separate distances for hiking and mountain trails, while the e-bike park features signposted routes on a network with cross-border connections.

Nature and activities

Torgon is home to Switzerland's only mouflon colony. The colony numbers 300 to 350 animals; the population may change over time. Many nature enthusiasts visit Torgon to observe the animals. However, sightings are not guaranteed.

Another notable feature is Torgon's suspension bridge: it is 150 metres long and 28 metres high. There are also two outdoor escape games, suitable for families and children aged 4 to 12. The games can be played alone or in groups. The local range of activities may change.

Culture and events

The Natur'Art project has been held annually since 2024. A theme is announced each year in April, after which around 20 photographs are selected. From mid-July to mid-September, they are displayed in the forest around the Torgon tourist office. The theme and dates vary, so it is worth checking the information for the relevant period.

The Chapelle de Recon and the Chapelle de la Gietty (Tracuit) also offer a glimpse into the history of chapels in Valais: they are among the 600 chapels built between the late 16th and early 18th centuries. An open-air mass is held each July at the site of the first chapel. The exact date varies.

Winter tours and travel dates

Torgon has three marked ski touring routes: two blue and one red. The tours take approximately 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes. Winter access depends on snow and route conditions; check these conditions when planning a tour.

If you are looking for a hotel in Torgon, the reason for your trip can help you choose when to visit: for Natur'Art or the open-air mass, the dates of the events, which vary, are the key factor; for a ski tour, it is the snow and route conditions. This lets you choose a period based on your interests, without treating cultural event dates and winter access as the same kind of planning.
