Mörschwil is in the Rorschach constituency, just east of the city of St. Gallen. The municipality, with its scattered hamlets and small village center, lies between the Goldach and Steinach rivers and extends to Lake Constance. The hillside locations offer views of the lake. You can consider the area from different perspectives when planning your trip: marked routes for exercise, scenic views and cultural and historical attractions each offer a distinct focus.

Running Routes, Hiking Trails and Views

The natural surroundings, with forests, fields and streams, offer opportunities for walks and bike rides. «Mörschwil bewegt» offers a choice of marked running routes measuring 3, 4.5 and 7 kilometers. They all start at the Seeblick sports hall and follow lightly trafficked roads and hiking trails. The route length is a concrete factor to consider when planning; surfaces and access may change over time. If conditions have changed, check the signs on site.

The Gucklochweg offers a different experience: it passes eight viewpoints in Mörschwil. Its viewing holes frame individual sections of the landscape. A viewing hole may frame a group of buildings, a distinctive landscape feature, a transport route or even a city.

The «Raus aus der Stadt» hiking trail was published in 2021; its description mentions blossoming fruit trees, meadows and views of the lake. The trail passes Schloss Watt on its way to Mörschwil and then continues towards Horn. If you plan to take this route, bear in mind that trail conditions may change and check the route in advance.

Cultural History Along the Trails

The renovated Church of St. John the Baptist is a sight along the St. Gallen–Mörschwil–Horn hiking route. Public access may vary; if you plan to visit the interior, check access in advance. Schloss Watt was first mentioned in 1273 and was once owned by the Württemberg general von Spitzenberg.

The museum features exhibitions on firefighting, agriculture and local trades across three floors. It is open by appointment, so arrange your visit in advance. Together with the historic sights along the hiking trails, the museum offers a distinct focus for travelers interested in cultural history as well as scenery and outdoor activities.

Another activity highlight is the 18-hole XXL golf course at the ostrich farm in Mörschwil. Players putt past various obstacles among sheep and ostriches. Check the booking details before your visit.
