Unteriberg: Meeting Zone, Mountain Lakes and Hoch-Ybrig
Accommodation in Unteriberg
Unteriberg is in the canton of Schwyz, Switzerland. Reasons to visit range from local history and a meeting zone to fly-fishing, hiking and snow sports. The destinations vary considerably: some are in Unteriberg or its surrounding area, while others are further afield. Conditions for fishing and walking times also vary from one body of water to another.
Meeting Zone, Art and Local History
The Unteriberg meeting zone has a large playground with various wooden play structures and a spacious area with a fire pit. The artworks there include depictions of trolls, a gnome, Winnie the Pooh, Paddington Bear, Puss in Boots, a witch and Rapunzel. If you are travelling with children, you can include the play structures and figures as possible activities. The meeting zone and its toilets are wheelchair-accessible; there is a free car park right next to the park.
A family swing was installed at Hirschfluh in 2025. A Gruebi—a rest area for locals and visitors with a view of Unteriberg—was also created there. Check the condition of the family swing and Gruebi on site before visiting. St. Joseph's Church on the Herti in Unteriberg offers a historical connection: it was inaugurated as a chaplaincy church in October 1873. The Kulturweg is one of the trails and hiking routes in the Unteriberg area.
Winter Activities in Hoch-Ybrig
The Hoch-Ybrig ski area stretches between Unteriberg and Oberiberg. It offers ski slopes of all difficulty levels for skiing and snowboarding, as well as cross-country ski trails, toboggan runs and snowshoe tours. So the options include more than downhill skiing, with other ways to enjoy the outdoors in winter. Plan your visit around whichever of these activities is your priority.
Fishing Spots and Their Conditions
Seeblisee is set in an idyllic mountain landscape within the Hoch-Ybrig hiking area. You can reach it on the Weglosen–Seebli 3S cable car; from the mountain station, it is a few minutes' walk to the lake. Seeblisee is open exclusively for fly-fishing during the cable car's operating hours. Check the timetable if you are planning your journey around this destination.
The man-made Sitysee in Waag, Unteriberg, is also used exclusively for fly-fishing. It is home to brown trout, rainbow trout and char. You can reach the lake by public transport via the Waag stop; from there, it is about a nine-minute walk. Check the current fishing rules and public transport connections before your visit.
At Sihlseeli, at an altitude of 1,896 metres, you can fish for char until the end of October, provided the mountain lake is ice-free. Fishing is therefore subject to the season and the lake's condition; check the current rules and season dates in advance. You can combine a fishing trip with marked hiking trails of varying difficulty. From Gribschli, the walk to Sihlseeli takes about one and a half to two hours and is only accessible on foot. Compared with the few minutes' walk from the mountain station to Seeblisee and the approximately nine-minute walk from Waag, this is a significantly longer stated walking time. Take the respective starting point and walking time into account when deciding.
The Wider Landscape
The wider area around Unteriberg is characterised by mountain landscapes, marshes and lakes, including Lake Sihl. There are opportunities for hiking and wide views across the alpine surroundings.
