Accommodation in Marbach
Marbach combines village culture with trails, mountain views and a special connection to cheesemaking. When planning your trip, you can choose from several different highlights: the parish church in the village centre, which is protected at national level; a cross-country ski trail right beside the village; themed trails; the views from Marbachegg; and insights into cheesemaking. The Lourdes Grotto offers a quieter change of pace. If you are looking for a hotel in Marbach, you can tailor your stay to whether you would most like to explore a trail, admire the village centre or learn about cheesemaking.
Village, Cross-Country Ski Trail and Mountain Views
St Nicholas Parish Church stands in Marbach’s village centre, which is protected at national level, and is a prominent local landmark. The Marbach village cross-country ski trail runs right beside the village, with the Schrattenfluh and the distinctive Schibengütsch always in view. The trail is suitable for beginners and advanced skiers. This sets it apart from the Marbachegg viewpoint: there, Schibegütsch and Hohgant form the horizon, with views stretching between them as far as the Bernese High Alps. The Bretzelibahn, Marbach’s gondola lift, starts just outside the village and takes around ten minutes to climb the northern side to Marbachegg. As the lift operates seasonally and schedules may change, check the current timetable in advance.
Themed Trails and Active Experiences
The Marbach Adventure Trail is a 4.27-kilometre themed trail of moderate difficulty. The tour takes around two hours and winds through nature, with 19 stations where the story of the three birds Mar, Sol and Lou is told and their legendary chirping can be heard. The trail starts at the Marbach Mountain Cheese Dairy. There, you can buy trail starter packs and an adventure box containing the equipment you need. If you are planning to do this trail, check in advance whether the starter packs and adventure box are currently available there.
The Clientis Flowtrail Marbachegg runs for 4 km from Marbachegg back to Marbach. It is varied and designed with lots of playful features. Difficult sections are marked and can be bypassed. To be specific, the Adventure Trail focuses on its story and 19 stations, while the Flowtrail centres on the return route from Marbachegg to Marbach and its bypassable difficult sections. As trail conditions may vary, check the latest conditions in advance. Marbach’s Outdoor Fitness Park is also one of the area’s summer experiences.
Culture, Reflection and Cheese
The Lourdes Grotto in Marbach can be reached by a picturesque pilgrimage path through the forest. It offers pilgrims and nature lovers a quiet place for reflection. At the Marbach Mountain Cheese Dairy, visitors can enjoy a cheesemaking experience: they can watch the cheesemakers at work and learn how milk is turned into cheese and mozzarella. The visitor aperitif includes seven varieties of the dairy’s own cheese specialities, as well as mini buffalo-quark tartlets and buffalo bread from Stein Bakery in Schangnau in the Emmental. The cheese experience focuses on the production process, while the aperitif showcases a selection of the products served. As details of the aperitif may change, check the current offering if it is important to your plans. Guided village tours are also offered in the municipality of Escholzmatt-Marbach. If you would like to include a tour in your plans, check the specific location and date in advance.
