Breil-Brigels is located in the Surselva region of the Swiss canton of Graubünden. This destination combines an extensive network of trails with golf, cross-country skiing, winter sports, lakeside walks and historic sites.

Hiking trails and mountain scenery

Breil-Brigels has more than 150 km of trails. The range extends from walks and family outings to alpine tours. The trail network features well-maintained paths, clear signposting and plenty of places to rest. Those weighing up different types of tour will find both shorter outings and alpine trails here; one route leads from Brigels to Val Frisal.

A quieter way to explore the area is also possible: the Brigels Chapel Trail is a meditative route to historic religious buildings. Above the village, on the Crest s. Sievi hill, are the remains of a small fortress and the early medieval Chapel of St. Eusebius. This offers distinct cultural points of interest, from a route to historic buildings to individual landmarks on a hill.

The Scatlè nature reserve lies northwest of the village on the eastern slope of Piz Dado, at approximately 1,580 to 2,015 m above sea level. It is considered Europe’s highest-altitude primeval spruce forest and lies beside the Flem River in the lower Val Frisal. The elevation should be understood as an approximate range.

Golf, cross-country skiing and winter sports

Golfidylle Brigels is a 9-hole course on the Tschuppina panoramic plateau. Its sunny location allows for a stated playing season from April to November. If golf is important to your travel plans, this time frame provides a specific indication of the season.

In winter, Brigels has two cross-country ski loops. The Migliè / Plaun sut trail passes Brigels Lake and winds through snow-covered forests. The Brigels-Waltensburg-Andiast ski region offers around 40 km of slopes at altitudes of up to 2,400 m above sea level. The Brigels ski area can be reached by car, train or bus. The Brigels–Crest Falla chairlift takes you from 1,280 m above sea level to the top station at 1,670 m; the ride takes six minutes. Alongside the trails, the stated slope length and specific chairlift journey time provide useful points of reference.

Walks and activities by the water

Brigels Lake is a lovely place for walks along the shore and relaxing. Swimming is prohibited there because the lake is used to generate electricity. Brigels bathing lake, by contrast, offers other options: it is no more than 1.60 m deep and has a paddling pool for the youngest visitors, a sunbathing lawn and a barbecue area with seating. A tubing run, a table tennis table and a chessboard are also available there free of charge. As some facilities may change, it is best to check before your visit.

Culture and history in the village

Casa Latour is a stone house with a tower above the entrance, in the centre of Brigels. Casper de Latour-Scarpatetti built it between 1895 and 1898. Fidel’s talina offers a different way to explore the past: historical work tools collected by Fidel Schmed are presented along this digital themed trail. The key is available during opening hours from the Surselva Tourism office in Brigels. If you plan to follow the trail, check with the office in advance about key collection.

Traditional, hearty meals may be available at Tegia Rasuz by prior arrangement by phone. This arrangement is part of planning your dining experience. Historic themed trails and buildings therefore complement your stay, while dining at Tegia Rasuz is a separate option that must be arranged in advance.

A destination north of Brigels

The Chischarolas fire pit is 2.7 km north of Brigels at 1,510 m above sea level, beside the Flem stream and at the edge of the primeval spruce forest. There are shady spots, and you can play or cool off by the water. The fire pit is another specific place to visit in the Brigels area.
