Scenery between the hillside and alpine pastures
The municipality extends from the Landquart River across a mostly forested slope, divided by several mountain streams, to the expansive alpine pastures at the Duranna Pass (2,117 m above sea level). The pass leads across to the Schanfigg valley via a mule track. Conters lies above Küblis in a mountainous landscape; the municipality also includes sunny slopes, forests, meadows and streams. The village has a rural character and is set in peaceful surroundings.
Hiking, skiing and snowshoeing
Hiking trails around Conters lead through scenery offering panoramic views of Prättigau. One specific hike is “From Schanfigg to Prättigau (Langwies–Conters)”: it is of moderate difficulty, 16.7 km long and takes about 5 hours and 35 minutes. The route crosses a moorland area and passes meadows full of gentians. On the descent to Conters, it passes the alpine buildings at Conterser Schwendi, Rongg, Stäfischwendi and Wisli, then follows the Wissbach stream downhill.
At the Duranna Pass, a five-minute detour on this route leads to Grünsee. Individual trail sections may be affected by seasonal conditions; check the latest route information before setting out. Conters is also on the 11 km-long Parsenn–Küblis ski run. You can also explore the surroundings on snowshoes; routes and snow conditions vary by season. The hike can be planned based on its distance and approximate duration, while changing conditions are an important part of planning a snowshoe outing.

For the “From Schanfigg to Prättigau (Langwies–Conters)” route, Langwies is about 50 minutes from Chur by the Rhaetian Railway. This train journey time applies to Langwies as the route’s starting point; to reach Conters itself, use the access road or take the postbus according to the timetable.
Village centre, church and Kultur.Haus
The historic village centre, with its beautiful wooden houses, invites you to linger. The little church of Conters stands in a meadow below the village and was built between 1491 and 1518.
The first bell probably dates from the 15th century. A third and largest bell was acquired in 1991; it has a diameter of 115 cm and is tuned to E. The construction of the little church and the later acquisition of the bell mark two distinct moments in its history.
Kultur.Haus Conters hosts events in theatre, music and literature, as well as art exhibitions. Alongside the historic village centre, it offers another distinct aspect of local culture.
