If you are looking for a hotel in Muntelier, you can choose where to stay based on the things that interest you: pile dwellings, castle history or paths along Lake Murten. The historic village lies on the southern shore of the lake and offers views of Mont Vully. Archaeological sites, LACabane and Chablais add further historical and scenic highlights.

Pile Dwellings and Archaeological Finds

The lakeside settlement of Muntelier/Steinberg lies on the southeastern shore of Lake Murten, near its northeastern corner. The area covered by the pile remains is estimated to be at least 4,300 square metres. Frédéric Troyon discovered the pile dwellings in 1860 during a period of low water. At the centre of the site is a pile of stones at least 500 square metres in size, made up of sorted pebbles. It is considered to be man-made and an archaeological cultural asset. The lakeside settlement is one of the most important pile-dwelling sites in the Three Lakes Region.

Another archaeological point of interest is Muntelier/PlatzbĂĽnden. Finds dating from the late 4th millennium BC have been associated with the site; Muntelier/PlatzbĂĽnden has one of the most diverse and important assemblages of finds from its period in the Three Lakes Region.

Muntelier Castle and the Old Street Village

The stately castle is the centrepiece of Muntelier's old street village. Its corner towers and ornate facade facing the lake define its exterior. Inside, the castle preserves fine rooms from the Ancien Régime. It passed into the possession of the Dinichert family in 1875. The castle thus combines architectural features with a specific date in the village's history.

LACabane: Expo.02 and Culture

LACabane on the lakeside promenade on Lake Murten in Muntelier is a cultural meeting place and the last surviving witness to Expo.02. Originally known as Cabane No. 7, it was one of the small chapels that lined the shore of Lake Murten near the Monolith during Expo.02. It has been preserved at its original site. LACabane is used as an exhibition space for art and cultural events. It can be rented for lakeside aperitifs, exhibitions and presentations.
