Trubschachen in the Emmental combines Kambly’s company history with village history, cheese-making and hiking trails. This gives you a range of options for planning your trip: the interactive world of fine biscuit-making, historic buildings, and hikes with specific time estimates. You can plan your stay around whether you want to focus mainly on culture, nature or both.

Kambly and cheese-making in Trubschachen

Kambly has been producing biscuits in Trubschachen in the Emmental since it was founded in 1910. The Kambly Experience offers an interactive introduction to the art of fine biscuit-making. The Kambly Explorer Trail follows a stream into the countryside; along the way, visitors solve small tasks and puzzles in a colourful, child-friendly illustrated booklet. The Himmelhaus is one of the trail’s stops in the village of Trubschachen.

The HĂĽpfenboden cheese dairy makes two wheels of Emmentaler AOC cheese every day. Group tours are available on request on Friday and Saturday afternoons; groups must have between four and 25 people, and advance booking is required. The dairy is located on the Trans Swiss Trail and offers hikers and cyclists a place to rest. The Kambly Experience Tour passes the HĂĽpfenboden mountain cheese dairy and, in the village of Trubschachen, the village cheese dairy. At Kambly baking events for groups, participants can take home the biscuits they made themselves and a surprise. Availability may change, so check what is on offer before making plans.

Historic buildings and village culture

Trubschachen Reformed Church was built in 1891/92 in the Neo-Gothic style, based on plans by Bernese architect Rudolf Ischer. During its renovation in 1968, three chancel windows by artist Fred Stauffer and two new bells were added.

The village schoolhouse dates from 1881 and, from 1964 onward, was a regular venue for the nationally renowned “Trubschachen Art Exhibitions”. In 2026, the Canton of Bern’s heritage conservation expert commission awarded the municipality a special prize for the successful renovation of the village schoolhouse. The local history museum is housed in the Stöckli and Spycher of a typical historic Emmental farmstead dating from the 18th century, which also includes a farmhouse. The church, schoolhouse and farmstead offer different insights into the village’s architectural and cultural history.

Hiking trails, journey times and scenery

The historic circular walk through the village centre takes about 45 minutes. The hike to Bäregghöhe starts at Trubschachen railway station and takes about an hour; the much longer route, which also starts there and goes via Folz, Rigenen and Schynenalp, takes about two hours and 40 minutes.

It follows riverbanks with habitats for animals and plants, barbecue areas and places to swim. The hiking and cycling routes are flat and well maintained. Trubschachen also has an extensive network of hiking trails and a great diversity of animal and plant species.

When cycling in Trubschachen, the heights offer views of the Emmental, the Alps and the Jura. At 1,100 metres above sea level, the Kambly Experience Tour offers views of the surrounding mountains, including Napf, Hohgant and Schrattenfluh, as well as the Bernese Alps.
