From Vargön, Halleberg and Hunneberg are within reach. The activities also vary in duration, from a short walk to a beaver safari lasting several hours.

Activities on Halleberg and Hunneberg

There are three cycling trails in the Halleberg and Hunneberg Eco Park, maintained by OK Skogsvargarna and the Hunneberg Sports and Fitness Club. A guided hike is also offered on Hunneberg, where you can learn about wildlife and nature. Guided forest bathing sessions are offered in the forest—another guided activity focused on experiencing nature.

Two beaver safaris depart from the Besökscenter Destination HalleHunneberg in Bergagården after Midsummer. A canoe tour takes place on Mondays, and a trip by wagon and hike on Wednesdays. Both last around three to four hours. For planning purposes, the day of the week, mode of transport and time required are specific points of difference.

Guided fishing with equipment provided is offered at Lake Hallsjön on Halleberg. The lake also offers put-and-take fishing, with rainbow trout regularly stocked. For guided fishing, the guide and equipment are part of the offer; the put-and-take information describes the fish stocking. Canoeing is available on Eldmörjan. The lake is just a short walk from the visitor centre.

Landscape and history

The mountains of Halleberg and Hunneberg consist of sandstone, alum shale and diabase. Their geological history is presented at the visitor centre and museum through the fossil Grapto. This brings together the named rock types and a specific example from the mountains’ geological history.

There are cavities in several places on Halleberg and Hunneberg. They are traces of old limestone caves from the 18th century, where limestone and shale were mined. A path leads from Halleberg’s ancient hillfort to Ättestupa. Both the mountains’ former use and named sites in the cultural landscape are therefore among the subjects you can take into account when planning your trip.

In the wider area around Vargön lies Öjemossarna, a 400-hectare wetland with several hundred wooded islands. Its size and many islands create a different landscape from the mountains with their described rock types. Also in the wider area, at the foot of Halleberg, is the 36-metre-high Skäktefallet waterfall, also known as Brudslöjan.
