Ambjörnarp: Draisine rides, lakes, and church history
Accommodation in Ambjörnarp
For a trip to Ambjörnarp, the draisine route to Sjötofta, trails along Store-Malen, and historic sights offer different points of interest. If you are looking for a hotel in Ambjörnarp, your planned outings may shape your travel plans: the draisine follows an old railway line, the circular trail runs along the lakeshore and through the forest, and the church and garden offer further points of interest.
Take a draisine to Sjötofta
The Ambjörnarp–Sjötofta draisine route follows the old Landeryd–Falköping railway line. The one-way draisine ride from Ambjörnarp to Sjötofta is 7 km long. Draisine rental is available through Ambjörnarps Byalag; advance booking is required. Four kilometres south of Ambjörnarp, there is a rest area with barbecue and swimming facilities at Holmåkrasjön, along the draisine route. So when planning the route, you can account for both the ride and a named rest area, as well as the advance booking requirement.
Hiking around Store-Malen
Store-Malen runt is a hiking route around Lake Store-Malen. It is 9 km long and easy. The route follows the lakeshore through woodland and crosses bridges and boardwalks. There is a car park at the starting point. The two options can be compared directly when choosing a route: the easy 7 km route to Sjötofta is by draisine; Store-Malen runt is a 9 km circular walk.
Garden, walk, and lakes
Björnhyltans Trädgård is a visitor garden with a garden café, farm shop, display garden, and cultural trail. The farm shop sells seasonal vegetables. Carlssons Promenad also runs through Björnhyltans Trädgård. The 1.5 km path tells the story of the farm and local life in earlier times. A visit to the garden therefore takes in both its landscaped areas and a short trail with a focus on local history. Visitor facilities and seasonal offerings may change; check the current conditions before your visit.
At Lake Visen in Ambjörnarp, there is a bathing area with a jetty, diving tower, lawns, and tables and benches. Skogssjön in Ambjörnarp is used as a water-skiing lake by Ambjörnarps Vattenskidklubb. On the weekend of 16 and 17 August 2025, the club held the Swedish Open Championships and the Para Championships in water skiing there. The two lakes therefore offer different activities: a bathing area at Visen and water skiing at Skogssjön.
Church and local history
Ambjörnarp Church is a Neoclassical wooden church dating from the 1840s. Its exterior has been well preserved since it was built. An oil painting by Bertha Maria Ahlgren from Länghem serves as the altarpiece; she painted it in 1895. Behind it is the original altarpiece, painted directly onto the wall and depicting the same subject as the one in the neighbouring parish of Sjötofta. A chandelier from the Limmared glassworks also hangs in the chancel. The church thus brings together architectural history, painting, and craftsmanship: Ahlgren’s origins point to Länghem, the subject to Sjötofta, and the chandelier to the Limmared glassworks. Ambjörnarp also has a bicycle museum.
