Nature trails, cycling and water
Rankås is a recreation area on a glacial gravel ridge, surrounded mainly by pine forest. It has hiking, exercise and cycling trails. On Jättens stig, the nature activities change with the seasons; the trail is suitable for children and families. Nature lovers will find both opportunities to get active and a trail whose activities change throughout the year.
The first 1.7 kilometers of Ă…-leden are accessible to wheelchairs and strollers. Along the trail there are several fishing spots, jetties, and barbecue and rest areas. The accessibility information applies to this first section. Fishing, paddling and water skiing are possible on Lake Ă–rlen. You can fish for various species both there and in the Tidan; local fishing regulations may change. Check the local fishing regulations before fishing.
Two different route descriptions can help you plan a bike ride: the Tibro Centrum cycling loop is 8.2 kilometers long and rated easy and suitable for families. Since the route brochure dates from 2013, check the surfaces and signage before setting off. A separate shared walking and cycling path, about 9.5 kilometers long, connects the center of Tibro with Fagersanna. It follows the former route of the Karlsborgsbanan and was completed in 2025. One description refers to a loop rated easy, while the other describes a connection between two towns.
Farms, architecture and furniture history
Balterydsgården is a well-preserved example of a large farm from around the time of Sweden’s land consolidation reforms. It hosts themed exhibitions and a traditional Midsummer celebration; check event dates before your trip. Balteryd Hembygdsgård also includes a fully functioning old blacksmith’s workshop from Orrebo. Public access and demonstrations at the forge may vary.
Brännhults hembygdsgård dates back to the 17th century. The site includes two comparable residential buildings, outbuildings and a turf hut that was relocated here. A waffle day takes place in early summer, and a heritage festival with various activities is held in August. Check the dates if you’re planning to attend one of the events.
BrittgĂĄrden is a modernist residential area in Tibro, designed by architect Ralph Erskine between 1959 and 1969. It is valued for its cultural and architectural significance and the unusual layouts of its apartments. In the wider region around Tibro, Ă…reberg lies north of the town center, where the Tidan splits into three branches. This well-preserved industrial environment includes several important industrial heritage sites.
Tibro museum is currently closed, and work is underway to find a new location for the museum. Its themes include the development of furniture production, from small workshops in furniture makers’ homes to large-scale industrial manufacturing. The collection focuses on furniture from different periods of Tibro’s furniture-making history, as well as an authentic workshop from the 1920s.
Glass, art and buildings
Tibro Glasverkstad is located in the old railway station building and sells glass made in Tibro. Visitors can make their own piece of glass and take it home during a guided glassblowing session. Confirm the current visiting and sales arrangements before planning your visit or booking. Buildings and their surroundings also offer tangible points of interest for a cultural history excursion. Tidebergsbron near Smuleberg is a three-span stone bridge over the Tidan, built in 1914. Foundations and machine parts from Tibro kvarn can be seen at the bridge’s western abutment. Check route conditions separately if you plan to visit the bridge. Häggetorp is also home to a very well-preserved granary, believed to date from the second half of the 19th century.
