Discover Hälleviksstrand: Hiking Trails, the Sea and Local History

The trail network includes a specifically designated difficult 4.7 km hiking trail, as well as other trails and a circular route. It also features the history of herring salting, Hälleviksstrand Church and seasonal water activities. This makes it possible to choose a destination based on specific interests.
Hiking Trails and Sea Views
Porsnäsleden is 4.7 km long and is a difficult hiking trail across cliffs and moorland. Much of it runs right alongside the so-called “E6 of the Sea”; the Porsnäs lighthouse serves as a landmark along the way. Those who want to take difficulty and terrain into account when choosing a trail will find specific guidance for this route.
The trail network in Hälleviksstrand, in western Orust, extends for about 25 km in and around the village and is connected to Edshultshall. Several trails cross smooth rock slabs and offer sea views.
The Strosa på Strana circular route features about 40 points of interest along its entire length. There is a toilet along the route, open from April to September.
These routes offer different options to consider: Porsnäsleden combines a specific distance with a difficulty rating and terrain; the approximately 25 km refers to the trail network as a whole; and Strosa på Strana is a circular route with about 40 points of interest. This lets you decide whether to focus your plans on a single trail rated difficult, the trail network or the circular route.
Local History and Architecture
The first written mention of Hälleviksstrand dates from 1617. The village flourished during the 18th-century herring period, when a herring-salting facility operated there. These dates mark different stages: the first mention in written sources and a later period of herring processing.
Hälleviksstrand Church was consecrated by Bishop Edvard Rodhe on October 20, 1904. It is the only wooden church built by the architect Adrian Peterson. Its red color and Old Norse-inspired design define its appearance.
Chronologically, these details span the first written mention in 1617, the 18th-century herring period and the church’s consecration in 1904. Local history and a specific building therefore complement the landscape-oriented trails as different themes to consider when planning a trip.
