Discover Kinna: Textile history and nature
Accommodation in Kinna
Kinna lies in the lush Viskadalen valley, surrounded by green landscapes and gently flowing waters. Visitors planning a stay here can combine textile history and historic sites with walks and trails in the surrounding area. Options range from a short stroll in the centre to longer hiking and cycling tours. Seasonal activities such as cross-country skiing and ice skating are also part of the town’s appeal, each subject to its own conditions.
Experience textile history in town
Kinna has a strong, world-famous textile tradition. The town is home to several textile shops and factory outlets, which have earned Mark the name Tygriket. The textile theme is part of both the region’s history and today’s shopping experience. The Förläggargårdsturen also reflects this cultural and historical heritage: this 55-kilometre cycling route passes through the Sjuhärad textile district and includes Kinna. It connects the town with a longer tour through the region.
A specific place to experience art and history stands in front of Kinna Library: the bronze statue “Väverskan” by Britt-Marie Jern, unveiled in 1982. It symbolises the women whose work contributed to the region’s development. The library is in the centre, next to the town hall, and offers books, computers with internet access and a photocopying service. As services and policies may change, it is advisable to check the latest visitor information in advance.
Historic buildings and trails
On the outskirts of town is Mariebergsparken, a local heritage park where you can stroll among carefully preserved historic buildings. The park also includes a reconstruction of a Viking house, inspired by the Nordic Iron Age. It is important to note that the house is a reconstruction: its connection to the Iron Age lies in its inspiration. In the centre, Häljadalen offers a different setting for a short walk or a break on a bench. You can therefore enjoy a visit to a historic park and a stay in a green setting as separate stops on your visit to Kinna.
For hiking, the Mjögasjöslingan trail loops around Lake Mjögasjön and connects to the approximately 30-kilometre Ekleden hiking trail. Kinna also has several walking trails, jogging tracks and cycling paths, as well as barbecue areas with wind shelters. For a shorter route, the 430-metre nature trail in the Assbergs raviner nature reserve is a specific option. It has a firm surface and is suitable for pushchairs and people using various mobility aids. The area is near Skene and Kinna. The routes mentioned vary considerably in length: the nature trail is 430 metres long, while Ekleden is approximately 30 kilometres.
Nature and seasonal activities
Further afield, south of Kinna, Gäddevik Nature Reserve lies directly on Lake Östra Öresjön. Here, deciduous woodland, steep slopes, old, sturdy trees and open spaces come together. You can swim from a sandy beach or smooth rocks. The landscape and swimming spots are in the wider area around town, while Häljadalen offers a short break right in the centre.
Some activities depend on the season or weather. During the winter season, Kinna has several cross-country ski trails. When the lakes around town freeze over, they also offer opportunities for ice skating. In summer, BackagĂĄrdsbadet operates as a seasonal public swimming pool. It is located at Snickaregatan 21 and has a 25-metre pool with a maximum depth of 1.7 metres, as well as a beach for little ones. The different options can help you match your interests to the right time of year for your trip.
Kinna Travel Centre, at the railway station, offers train and bus connections to Varberg, Borås and Gothenburg. As transport services may change, check the latest timetables when planning your journey. Kinna brings together a distinctive textile history, hiking trails, historic sites and nature experiences—from short walks in town to longer routes in the surrounding area.
