Horred: Church, Textile History and Nature
Accommodation in Horred
For a trip to Horred, you can choose from several points of interest: architectural history at Horred Church, textile production at Ekelundhuset, local history at the heritage museum, or time at a swimming area. These themes are complemented by Hittaut and the HSK Rundan. Which ones matter to you depends on whether you are looking for culture, insights into textile production or outdoor activities.
Church and Local History
The nave of Horred Church was built in 1792 and renovated in 1828; the tower was also added at that time. The church stands on a hill and offers views across Viskadalen. This building therefore brings together architectural history and a perspective on the landscape.
The local heritage association’s museum is located at Klockaregården in Horred. On the grounds of Hembygdsgården Klockaregården stands a unique 19th-century stone mangle. The museum also has a replica of the bullet said to have caused the death of Charles XII. For those interested in local heritage, the points of interest therefore range from a historic 19th-century object to a story associated with Charles XII.
Textile Production at Ekelundhuset
At Ekelundhuset, visitors can follow textile production from yarn to finished product. On a tour of the factory, they can see a Jacquard loom dating from around 1850. The production process shows the journey from raw material to finished product, while the tour also draws attention to a specific historic piece of equipment. If you plan to take the tour, check the latest information beforehand, as operational details may change.
The café and restaurant at Ekelundhuset serve coffee, cake and light lunches. If you plan to stop there, check the latest information about the food and drink options before your visit.
Swimming Areas and Trails
There is a swimming area with jetties and lawns at Hornsjön, also known as Lilla Horredssjön. To find it: just north of Horred, turn off road rv 41 towards Kilatorpet; after about one kilometre, the swimming area is on your left. If you would like to include time by the water in your travel plans, this offers a different focus from the cultural attractions.
At Helsjön in Horred, the blue Strandvägen hiking trail is closed from 1 March to 1 August because of sensitive birdlife. In addition, none of the sports or hiking trails at Helsjön are recommended for use with a stroller. Take these restrictions into account when choosing your dates and routes.
Outdoor Activities
The HSK Rundan starts and ends at Horredshallen. Hittaut offers a different way to find your bearings: this free outdoor activity involves searching for checkpoints using a paper map or an app. Hittaut can be done on foot, running, by bicycle or in a wheelchair; checkpoints are located in Horred and other places in Mark. The activity runs seasonally, so check the dates before making plans. While the HSK Rundan starts and ends at Horredshallen, Hittaut focuses on the checkpoints and the choice between a map and an app.
