Hova offers a variety of reasons to visit: an annual summer event, trails for different activities, local history and live concerts. The following topics provide specific ideas for your stay.

A summer event in Hova

Every summer, Hova Riddarvecka transforms parts of Hova into a medieval village for nine days. It has been doing so since 1990.

Trails and routes by distance

Hova has several specific route options for outdoor exercise. Hälsans stig is an accessible 3.5-kilometre circular trail. Getryggen has marked running and exercise routes of 2.5, 3.1 and 5 kilometres. You can compare the three distances directly if you prefer a particular length for a run or workout. Getryggen activity park is located at the Movallen sports grounds in Hova.

A 20-kilometre mountain bike trail also runs around Hova. About 7 kilometres of it consist of firm, fine gravel. When planning, you can distinguish the shorter gravel section from the total route length.

Folkeberg Nature Reserve

Folkeberg Nature Reserve has a marked 1.6-kilometre circular walking trail. The reserve has the character of a primeval forest, where fallen trees are left lying. The trees are around 170 years old, though some are considerably older. The age given is therefore an approximate figure for the stand, with some trees explicitly noted as exceptions. The reserve’s forest also contains a well-preserved Bronze Age cairn.

Local history in the museum and landscape

Hova Local History Museum displays old farming equipment and household items from different periods. Stikkan Andersson’s life is also connected with Hova: he was born there on 25 January 1931 and grew up in the small house by the market square. The house still stands in Hova today and is called the Green House.

At Värpemon near Hova is the restored Varggropen, a wolf pit that was still in use in the 1850s. The museum, house and wolf pit each offer a distinct focus on local history.

Music and cider-making

Rockfickan is a volunteer-run rock club in Hova that hosts live concerts throughout the year. Its schedule differs from Hova Riddarvecka: the latter lasts nine days in summer, while the concerts take place throughout the year.

At Hova Musteri, customers can press their own apples and pears using fruit they bring with them, as well as the business’s facilities, equipment and expertise. Cider-making is booked by phone by appointment. Hova Musteri also sells ready-made cider and other apple and pear products.

Nearby nature and historic sites

The Högsåsen nature reserve lies northeast of Hova. It is part of the Stora Tiveden area and offers hiking trails of varying lengths and difficulty levels. While Folkeberg has a specified 1.6-kilometre marked circular trail, the trails in Högsåsen are described by their differing lengths and difficulty levels.

The Domarringarna burial ground is located at Lilla Hederna, northeast of Hova. It comprises five stone circles and five large, lumpy stones. This nearby site offers another tangible link to the region’s history.
