Nature along the Gullspångsälven

The lower stretches of the Gullspångsälven have been a Natura 2000 site and a nature reserve since 2000. Laxtrappan offers another example of the connection between the river and nature. It was built in the lower and steepest part of Gullspångsforsen so that salmon and trout can reach the spawning grounds below the gates of the power plant dam. The protected status and fish passage offer insight into two different aspects of the river: its protected lower stretches and the role of the structure in providing access to the spawning grounds.

Trails and rail bike routes

The Gullspång section of Hälsans stig is 3.3 kilometres long and runs through a built-up area. It is lit and cleared of snow in winter. As well as its length, the route’s surroundings and specific features are worth considering when planning a walk.

There are two rail bike routes, with different lengths and directions. Torvedsbanan is 12.5 kilometres long and runs south from Gullspång along the Gullspångsälven to Midskog. The 38-kilometre Trelänsbanan runs north. It passes through Konsterud in southern Kristinehamn and ends in Degerfors. Both routes start in Gullspång, but differ in direction, length and destination. Rail bikes can be ridden from the Dressin House in the centre of Gullspång. These specific differences can help you choose a route.

Culture in town

Art, cinema and literature are also part of Gullspång’s cultural scene. Galleri Gallerixan is a small gallery and meeting place in the centre.
