Olsfors: Vannasjön, Hiking Trails and Local History
Accommodation in Olsfors
Olsfors offers specific ways to plan a stay centred on water, outdoor activities and local history. At Vannasjön, there is a small swimming spot and a hiking trail about two kilometres long that goes around the lake. There are also trails maintained by IK Omega, Olsfors kyrka and Skogsparken. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Olsfors, these themes can help you decide what to focus on during your stay: time by the water, a trail or a glimpse of local history.
At Vannasjön: Swimming Spot and Loop Trail
The small swimming spot at Vannasjön is surrounded by woodland, tall grass and reeds. A hiking trail about two kilometres long goes around the lake. This lets you plan for Vannasjön from two perspectives: as a place with a swimming spot and as a starting point for a walk. If you are interested in both water and outdoor activity, Olsfors offers both side by side. At about two kilometres, the loop trail is the shorter option compared with IK Omega’s green-and-white-marked 8 km route. This contrast makes trail length a simple first consideration when planning your trip.
Trails, a Mill and a Feldspar Quarry
IK Omega’s green-and-white-marked 8 km route passes Vanna kvarn and an old feldspar quarry; the quarry is near the mill. The notable Vanna kvarn is also on the way to the swimming spot at Vannasjön. For travellers who want to see the mill and feldspar quarry as well as enjoy some outdoor activity, both places provide specific landmarks along the longer route. There are three training routes at IK Omega’s club lodge: 8 km, 5 km and 2.5 km. The 2.5 km route is lit; the routes run on gravel surfaces and smaller forest paths. Compared with the lakeside loop, the training routes range from 2.5 to 8 km, with a 5 km option in between. When choosing, you can therefore consider both the distance and the surface; the 2.5 km route has lighting as an additional feature.
Local History and Getting Around
Olsfors kyrka was inaugurated in 1916, extensively renovated in 1973 and taken out of use on 14 April 2024. This sequence of inauguration, later renovation and closure provides a chronological perspective on local history. Skogsparken is in Olsfors on Örelidsvägen. There is parking at the starting point of the Omegastugan hiking trail in Olsfors; the Bråtes bro bus stop on Boråsvägen is just under 200 metres away. If you plan to take the bus to the starting point, check the timetable in advance. Parking at the trailhead and a bus stop just under 200 metres away give you two different options for getting there.
