Kolbäck: Trails and Cultural History
Accommodation in Kolbäck
Kolbäck offers two distinct starting points for a trip: Kyrkbyåsen as an area for walking and cycling, and historic sites around Folkets Park and Kolbäck Church. If you are looking for a hotel in Kolbäck, these themes can help you choose a destination that suits your interests. The natural features center on the ridge and pine forest; the cultural history spans from the church, dated to the medieval period, to buildings and memorials with specific dates.
Nature and Cycling Trails
Kyrkbyåsen is a popular walking area on the edge of Kolbäck. A trail runs along the ridge through an old pine forest. The combination of the ridge, forest and trail gives the area a distinct landscape character. The trail on Kyrkbyåsen is also part of the “Along the Strömsholm Canal” cycling route. This brings a walking area and a cycling route together on the same named trail—a specific point of reference for travelers looking to explore Kolbäck through its landscape and trails.
In information updated on July 8, 2026, Hallstahammar Municipality describes a cycling network that runs within and between the localities of Hallstahammar, Kolbäck, Strömsholm and Borgåsund in the south. The individual trail at Kyrkbyåsen and the municipal network represent two different scales of cycling route planning.
Folkets Park and Local History
Folkets Park is another place where Kolbäck’s history can be understood in concrete terms. Several organizations joined forces in 1928 and founded an association for Folkets Park. The park was built in the early 1930s, and most of its buildings have been preserved. The combination of a dated founding and surviving buildings makes the park a point of reference for the town’s association and building history. Compared with the church, dated to the late 12th century, the park’s origins belong to a much more recent period.
Kolbäck Church and Tiondeboden
Kolbäck Church stands where the Kolbäcksån forms an S-shaped bend. Its origins are dated to the late 12th century. Historically, Kolbäck’s church village was a center for the surrounding population; the church site and the village’s former role thus provide two different points of reference for local history. Behind the church is Tiondeboden, the only surviving part of the former Komministergården, a parsonage. The building was repaired from 1999 to 2001 and rededicated on September 4, 2001, in connection with a play about the Battle of Herrevadsbro.
Herrevadsbro Memorial
The Herrevadsbro memorial is at the entrance to Herrevad, next to Kolbäcks Gästgivargård. The memorial offers a view of the Kolbäcksån. The river is therefore part of both the description of Kolbäck Church’s location and the view from the memorial; the two places relate to it in different ways.
