If you’re looking for a hotel in Lövånger, you can plan your trip around your interests: the church village and museum offer a glimpse of cultural heritage, while Gärdefjärden is a destination for nature and birdwatching. Six cycling routes of varying lengths add to the options. Lövånger is located right beside the E4.

The Church and Church Village

Construction of Lövånger Church began in the 15th century; it was probably brought into use in 1507. The church village is one of the oldest preserved in Sweden and dates back to the 17th century. It comprises a total of 117 church cottages and numerous stable buildings. The cottages date from the mid-17th century.

The church is built mainly of grey natural stone; its surrounds and vaults include brick.

Museum in a Västerbotten Farmhouse

Lövångers Hembygdsförening runs a museum in a Västerbotten farmhouse just north of the old stone church. It displays a 1913 Adler automobile and an exhibition about blacksmiths from the surrounding area. The upper floor covers clockmaking, shoemaking, tanning, photography, and dairy farming; it also houses a historic classroom. The exhibition themes thus range from crafts and work to photography and school.

If you would like to visit the museum, check the latest opening information in advance.

Gärdefjärden and Birdwatching

The bird-rich lake Gärdefjärden is surrounded by a valuable cultural landscape. During the spring and autumn migrations, it is an important resting place for birds. The nature reserve has walking trails, rest areas, and several viewpoints. Birdwatching facilities include a bird tower, a bird hide, and a platform; all three offer views across the lake.

The entrance to the nature reserve can be reached via the church village and Soldattorpet in Lövånger. Lövånger bus station is close to the area.

Cycling Routes and Excursion Destinations

Lövånger’s six cycling routes vary in length. For a specific point of comparison, Bölerundan, also known as Bruna spåret, is 18 km long and has several rest areas.

The nearby Bjuröklubb Nature Reserve is notable for its scenery and history. It has a lighthouse and winding trails with sea views. Three walking trails are marked, including a 6.2 km circular route. Unlike the lake and birdlife at Gärdefjärden, Bjuröklubb’s main excursion features are its lighthouse and sea views.
