Vormsele: Rapids, Fishing and History
Accommodation in Vormsele
For planning your trip to Vormsele, three themes are worth distinguishing: water and fishing, trails in the surrounding area, and historic buildings. At Vormforsen, there are rapids and various access points; fishing differs between river and lake, while Vormsele Hembygdsgård has its own architectural history. If you are looking for a hotel, these specific interests can help you plan excursions for your stay.
Water, trails and access
Nearby, Vormforsen drops 9 m over a 500 m stretch. There are two access points to Vormforsen; the easiest is from Route 363 between Rusksele and Vormsele. At the SÖ Grillplats by Vormforsen, an accessible path with a ramp leads from the car park to a platform with a wind shelter, tables and a permanently installed barbecue.
The Sagostigen at Vormforsen has different requirements: it may be difficult for younger children and is not accessible with a stroller or wheelchair. When comparing trails for your plans, bear this difference in mind: the barbecue area is reached by a path with a ramp, while the Sagostigen is not accessible to strollers or wheelchairs.
Fishing between river and lake
The Vormsele FVO area includes the long rapids of Vormforsen and Linaforsen. In the section of the Vindelälven managed by the FVO, trout, grayling and salmon are fished in several rapids. Abborrtjärn offers lake fishing for trout and Arctic char. Trout is mentioned for both types of water; grayling and salmon are associated with rapids fishing, and Arctic char with lake fishing.
Before fishing, check the current seasonal rules, access conditions and required permits. For travelers with children, the age rule is also relevant: in the wider region, children and young people up to and including 15 years of age can fish for free in the Vormsele FVO.
Trails and forest nearby
Nearby, a walking trail climbs uphill along the mountainside and forms a loop just over 1.5 km long. Beetles that depend on recently dead pine wood occur in the old pine forests on Blåviksberget. These include Tallbarksvartbagge, Cholodkovsky's bark beetle and Tallstumpbagge. For nature enthusiasts, the combination of old pine forest and these specialized species is a distinct focus alongside the waterways.
Historic buildings in Vormsele
Vormsele Hembygdsgård used to be the Vormsele school; it was built in 1901. Vormsele byamuseum is housed in a barn built in Svartliden in 1870 and moved in 1974. The two dates therefore distinguish the barn's construction location and year from the year it was later moved.
The historic site in Vormsele includes a settler's cabin built on Haraberget and moved in 1975. A village smithy from Grundtjärn was added in 1976 and is fitted out as a blacksmith's workshop. In 1977, a grain-drying kiln was moved from Björksele. A building for old objects was built next to Vormsele byamuseum in 1981–1982; a special exhibition hall was also built on the grounds of Hembygdsgård. Together, these buildings showcase different building types and periods when they were moved.
