Grums: Waterfront Promenade, Vänern and History
Accommodation in Grums
The Grums waterfront promenade runs from Grums sports park to the bathing area at Trulsön. The four-kilometre route is divided into sections, connecting a path from the sports grounds to the water.
Water and trails
At the Trulsön bathing area, sandy beach and rocks are part of the scenery, along with a barbecue area, a jetty, an accessible ramp and a playground. There is also a changing cabin and a jetty for winter swimming. Seasonal use of the facilities and access may vary.
Those navigating by water can find Grums guest harbour inside the bridge at Slottsbrosundet. The stated water depth is 2.5 to 3 metres; seasonal harbour conditions may change. Trulsön bathing area is within walking distance of the guest harbour. The railway station and bus station are near the centre of Grums. Check timetables for your specific travel dates.
Sports and outdoor activities
Grums sports park has an ice rink and an artificial turf pitch, as well as illuminated exercise trails. A mountain bike trail is located right next to the sports park. Its hilly route is 2.5 kilometres long and has a bark surface—details that describe the character of the course more precisely than its length alone.
Two of the three cross-country ski trails maintained by Grums Ski Club in Grums Municipality are at Grums sports park. The trails in Grums include an illuminated 2.5-kilometre route and another that is five kilometres long. Ålviksbacken has four downhill runs and offers views of Vänern. Ski trails and downhill runs depend on snow and operating conditions.
Cycling and orienteering options are also available. Sverigeleden, Unionsleden and Vänerleden pass through Grums Municipality; check the route for each trail before setting out. The municipality also has 30 Hittaut checkpoints in various locations. They can be reached on foot, by running or by bicycle. The number of checkpoints may change between seasons.
Nature and local history
Extensive fields of glacial boulders and sequences of raised beach ridges shape the landscape of Getgarsudde Nature Reserve. There is also a marked hiking trail about 2.5 kilometres long. Trail conditions and access may change.
Grums Church dates back to the 12th century; two baptismal fonts from that century have been preserved. After a fire in 1927, the church was rebuilt on the old walls. Public art offers another perspective on local history: as part of Artscape Värmland, a mural was created in 2017 on the apartment building at Åsgatan 25. Grums’s Sveaparken is also one of the locations in a permanent series of memorial artworks dedicated to Sven-Erik Magnusson.
At Grums local heritage centre stands Lavinias stuga, built in 1906 as one of the first houses in what is now the built-up area of Grums. A building at the local heritage centre by Långsjön dates from 1854 and was moved to its present location. In Värmskog, L.M. Ericsson’s memorial home, Nordtomta, displays telephones and other equipment from Ericsson’s early production.
