Jössefors: Cycling and Industrial History
Accommodation in Jössefors
Jössefors brings together two clearly defined themes for planning a trip: cycling on named routes and a history that can be traced through specific industrial and linguistic milestones. The cycling routes differ in their stated lengths; Koppsängsleden also has a technical description that notes many stony sections. You can therefore weigh activities and the town’s history according to your interests.
Cycling routes in Jössefors
Koppsängsleden is a 6.1-kilometre route in Jössefors and is classified as a Biking Värmland route. It starts at Jössefors idrottsplats. The route is technical and has many stony sections. For your planning, you can therefore consider two specific criteria together: the route length and its described character.
Motionären is a 3.1-kilometre cycling route. If you first sort the routes by distance, Motionären’s 3.1 kilometres can be compared with Koppsängsleden’s 6.1 kilometres. This makes the stated length a clear point of comparison; Koppsängsleden’s technical character, with many stony sections, is an additional factor to consider when choosing. You can thus consider the route length separately from whether the described terrain is important to your tour planning.
Hittaut has checkpoints in Jössefors. Their locations and access information may change from season to season. For guidance, check the current map.

Jössefors bruk and local history
Jössefors developed around Jössefors bruk at the Jösseforsen rapids on the Jösseälven River. The town’s development, the bruk, and this named stretch of river are therefore connected. The industrial history can be traced through dated milestones: a small wood-grinding mill was already operating at Jössefors bruk in the 1760s.
The industrial history of Jössefors bruk also includes a sulfite mill built to its east in 1930. Together with the wood-grinding mill from the 1760s, this marks another, much later milestone in local industrial history. These two dates help place the mills in their respective historical periods.
The name Jösseforsen also has a medieval history: the form “Iessafforss” is attested in 1441, and “Jwssesfors” in 1469. These two spellings add a linguistic perspective on Jösseforsen to its industrial history. The town’s history thus centers on its connection to the river and the rapids, as well as historical names and industrial milestones.
