Rimbo: Church, Culture and Nature
Accommodation in Rimbo
Rimbo offers several different points of interest for planning a trip: its stone church, a cultural venue, places to enjoy the water, and nature and trail-related activities. If you are looking for a hotel in Rimbo, you can choose your focus based on whether cultural history, swimming, birdwatching, or outdoor activities will shape your stay. The distinctions below can help you match your travel interests with your hotel search.
Church and cultural history
The present-day stone Rimbo Church was built in the second half of the 15th century; its form has not changed since. The church interior, sacristy, porch, and vaults were built as a single complex. The individual parts therefore belong to one shared architectural ensemble. For travelers interested in cultural history, the church offers a tangible point of reference with a clearly defined building history.
Another historical connection runs through Rimbo: Sjuhundraleden was a Viking route from Norrtäljeviken to Uppsala. It broadens the cultural perspective from a building to a historic route connecting Rimbo with the two named places. At Rimbo Kulturscen, people of all ages can experience and perform the performing arts. As the program varies, check the event dates if you would like to plan your trip around a performance.
Swimming and places by the water
Rimbo swimming pool has a large pool with 25-meter lanes, a separate play area, a water slide, and a toddler pool. The warm teaching pool is kept at around 32 to 34 °C and is used for swimming lessons, water aerobics, and physiotherapy. This makes it possible to distinguish the lane pool, play areas, and warmer teaching pool by their different features.
Sandbanken bathing area is on the north shore of Långsjön. It has about 35 meters of south-facing shoreline and grassy areas, and is surrounded by deciduous woodland. While Kundbysjön is known as a bird lake and an important resting place for migratory birds, Sandbanken is notable for its shoreline landscape and its orientation. If specific facilities are important to your plans, check what is available on site before your trip.
Nature and trails around Rimbo
Näset is one of Rimbo’s three larger existing natural areas. Kundbysjön lies about two kilometers southeast of the center. As a bird lake, it is an important resting place for migratory birds; the recommended visiting season is from spring through fall. If bird migration is a focus of your trip, this seasonal guidance can help with planning. The approximate distance from the center indicates its location, not a specific walking or driving time.
Cycling, hiking, and horseback riding are allowed and welcome on the Banvallarna. The prepared sections from Norrtälje to Rimbo and from Rimbo to Rånäs follow the flat, wooded route of former railway embankments. The unprepared section from Rimbo to Hallstavik via Edsbro and Skebobruk requires different consideration: it is passable in part, and Norrtälje Municipality does not carry out inspections, maintenance, or repairs there. Check the route status before setting off, especially if you plan to use this section.
At Västertorpsskogen, the illuminated running trail is groomed as a cross-country ski track in winter when there is sufficient snow. Its use as a ski track is therefore explicitly dependent on snow conditions. For a trip focused on outdoor activities, there are various options, from the prepared sections of the Banvallarna to the winter trail, which is groomed only when conditions allow.
Timetables and event dates
SL bus route 648 runs between Rimbo station and Rånäs according to a fixed timetable; no booking is required for departures. As the route may change, check the timetable for your travel day. Rimbo Marknad is held annually on the first Thursday in October. If the market is the reason for your trip, confirm the exact date before making plans.
