Hallstavik combines a clearly recognisable industrial heritage with opportunities to enjoy nature and exercise. Horse riding, tennis, speedway and the outdoor swimming pool add a range of activities. You can first decide whether cultural history, outdoor trails or a particular sport should shape your stay.

Culture and industrial history

Hallstavik Church is located next to the paper mill. It was originally designed by Professor Ivar Tengbom and was inaugurated in 1933 by Archbishop Erling Eidem. The design and inauguration mark two different stages in its history: the original architectural plans and the later inauguration. You can also visit Hallstavik’s intact industrial facility dating from around the turn of the century.

The Häverö-Edebo heritage centre offers a different way to explore local history. It comprises nine buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries, moved to present-day Hallstavik from various parts of the former parishes of Häverö and Edebo. These include a former classroom from Ronöholm School, a smithy, a flax-drying kiln, a threshing barn and other barns. These building types reflect a range of former uses: teaching, blacksmithing, drying flax and threshing. The other barns are filled with period objects. Coffee, waffles and ice cream are sold at the centre; the offerings may vary seasonally.

Nature at nearby Häverö prästäng

In the Häverö prästäng nature reserve, trails wind through wooded areas and pastures, inviting you to go for a walk. The reserve also has several beaches, as well as a picnic area with a barbecue spot and benches. There is an accessible toilet with a changing table next to the car park. This means you can enjoy both the landscapes along the trails and practical options for taking a break.

Horse riding, tennis and speedway

The riding school run by Hallstaviks Ryttarförening welcomes children aged six and over to group riding lessons. Private lessons are available with or without your own horse. There are special groups for show jumping and dressage. The options therefore vary according to lesson format, whether you have your own horse and the riding discipline.

Hallstaviks Tennisklubb offers tennis on two floodlit outdoor clay courts. The lighting means you can play even on dark autumn evenings. Hallstavik outdoor swimming pool is accessible to people with disabilities.

North of Stockholm, the speedway team Rospiggarna can be found in Hallstavik. According to the tourism description, it is one of Sweden’s top teams. Competition schedules change; if a particular date is important for your trip, check the fixture list.
