Discover Boo: Nature, Culture and Trails
Accommodation in Boo
Boo brings together several distinct travel interests: viewpoints and hiking trails, swimming spots, and places of cultural and historical interest. When choosing where to stay, consider whether you mainly want to spend time outdoors, by the water, or exploring art and history. If you’re looking for hotels in Boo, you can factor these interests into your travel plans.
Velamsund: Views and a variety of trails
In eastern Boo lies the Velamsund Nature Reserve, one of Nacka municipality’s largest recreation areas. From the observation tower on Himlaberget, you can see far across Nacka and the inner archipelago. If you’d like to include a viewpoint in your stay, this reserve offers a specific destination.
Velamsund has several hiking trails and exercise loops: a 2.5-kilometre illuminated trail, a 4-kilometre green trail and a 6-kilometre red loop. At around 15 kilometres, the Booleden is considerably longer. It runs from Boo hembygdsgård in Orminge to Strömmen farm, on the border with Värmdö municipality. Along the way, the route passes through forests and over rocky terrain, past small forest lakes and across meadows. This gives you a choice between shorter trails in Velamsund and a longer route that takes in several types of landscape.
Rensättra: Pastures, forest and water
In northern Boo, the Rensättra Nature Reserve includes pastures, old Scots pine forests on rocky ground, and stream habitats. The Lila slingan is 2.7 kilometres long and passes meadows, horse paddocks, waterways and allotment gardens; the route also includes spruce forest and rocky terrain. Along this trail, open spaces, water and forest come together in different forms.
Swimming is possible by the shore of Lake Sågsjön within the reserve. When planning, you can therefore choose between a specific route with varied scenery and a place to swim by the lakeshore.
Swimming at Boobadet
Boobadet has a sandy beach, bathing jetties and rocks. A ramp provides step-free access. You can get there on bus 414 to the Boo gård stop, followed by a walk of about 600 metres. If you plan to use this connection, check the current timetable in advance.
Cultural history and art in Boo
You can take a guided cultural and historical walk in Boo, which includes a stop in front of Boo Gård. Boovalvet is a preserved cellar northwest of Boo herrgård that may date from the 16th century. This tentative dating makes the cellar a distinct point of historical interest, although its exact year of construction is unknown.
Boo kyrka has a series of stained-glass windows depicting the Passion, as well as wall and ceiling paintings by Olle Hjortzberg. The history of a chapel is another topic of historical interest in Boo: a chapel built in 1635 was burned down after the Russian devastation of 1719. The castle architect Nicodemus Tessin then built a new chapel, which was consecrated in 1724.
These sites offer a range of options to suit your interests: the guided walk provides a cultural and historical perspective, while the church focuses on stained glass and wall paintings. The cellar and the chapel’s history add preserved or historical buildings to these themes.
Another natural area
The Baggensstäket Cultural Reserve in Boo is intended to provide a natural area close to residential areas for recreation. Along with the reserves described above, it broadens the range of nature experiences available during a stay, while Velamsund and Rensättra offer specific trails and landscapes.
