Trosa brings together town history, an archipelago, nature and outdoor activities. If you’re looking for hotels in Trosa, it helps to prioritise the activities you have planned: a self-guided walk in the centre is different from a paddling trip, a hiking stage or an MTB trail.

Town history and cultural heritage

Trosa was granted town privileges by King Charles IX in 1610. Trosa stadskyrka is protected as a church heritage site. A self-guided town tour with an audio guide takes you through central areas, with historical images providing further context. Along the way, you’ll encounter different aspects of the town’s history: a specific date, a protected church building and a tour through the centre.

Nature around Trosa

Near Trosa is Borgmästarholmen, a Natura 2000 site with extensive deciduous forest. Its natural features include old, hollow oaks, rare fungi, lush spring flora and a very diverse birdlife. Nature enthusiasts will find a different focus here than on a town tour or a water-based activity: the area is shaped by its forest, plants and birdlife.

Paddling and boat trips in the archipelago

You can explore the Trosa archipelago by kayak or SUP. Equipment is available to rent in Trosa during the summer season. Beginners can take a paddling trip near Trosa, following the coast along Trosa’s channel to Borgmästarholmen, where they can come ashore on a sandy beach. The suggested route therefore includes a destination and a landing spot.

In summer 2026, passenger boat services in the Trosa archipelago offered trips to Kråmö. This option differs from paddling when planning your trip: you can include a passenger boat journey as a water-based experience in its own right. Check dates and departure times before planning a trip; timetables and services can change from season to season.

Hiking, cycling and other activities

Stage 55 of the Sörmlandsleden can be hiked from Prins Alexanders plats to Trosa. The Vitalis outdoor recreation area is a short distance from the centre of Trosa and has an approximately 1.7-kilometre MTB trail. It is rated blue and has some green sections. The hiking stage leads to Trosa, while the MTB trail has a stated length and difficulty rating.

Trosa Aktivitetspark has a high ropes course with ziplines. This adds another activity to the options available on foot, by bike or on the water. The different offerings can be distinguished by type: hiking a stage, cycling a graded MTB trail or tackling a high ropes course with ziplines.

Getting there and fishing

The Trosabussen connects Liljeholmen in Stockholm with Trosa; the journey takes one hour. If you plan to use this connection to get there, check the current timetable before departure. A fishing licence is required to fish in the TrosaĂĄn. Check the local rules in force before fishing.
