Vånga lies at the northern end of Ivösjön, in the northern part of Kristianstad Municipality. Several distinct themes may be of interest when choosing your destination: Vångabacken and its skiing, trails through the cultural landscape, and historic remains. Depending on whether you are interested in winter sports, hiking or older architectural and landscape features, your stay can take on a different focus.

Skiing at Vångabacken

Vångabacken has three downhill runs of varying difficulty, as well as a separate children's slope with its own lift. Operating conditions and snow cover vary seasonally. Take these changing conditions into account when planning a winter stay, and check them before your visit.

Walking trails and scenery around Ivösjön

The marked Vångaleden trail is just over ten kilometres long and passes historic remains, including the iron pits at Tolskepp. The nearby Svartetorp Nature Reserve has an easy, unmarked path. The trail information is therefore clearly distinct: Vångaleden is marked and over ten kilometres long, while the path in the reserve is easy and unmarked. In the reserve at the northern tip of Vångaberget, you will find natural forest, numerous large erratic boulders and steep slopes.

Vånga's bathing area is on the shore of Ivösjön. Village roads and country lanes through the cultural landscape also play an important role in outdoor recreation. The scenery on offer ranges from the lakeshore to routes through the surrounding area and the striking natural features of the nearby reserve. When planning your trip, you can take these different options into account alongside winter sports, without combining them into a single route.

Cultural landscape and history

Large, long-established orchards are typical of the Vånga area. As more organised commercial fruit growing took hold, fruit-packing houses were also established there. Around Rystorp in the west and near Snäckestad in the southeast, beech forest grows on formerly wooded common land. Orchards and forests thus shape different aspects of the cultural landscape.

The family-run business Vångamust makes apple juice from apples grown according to strict organic principles and hand-picked. The farm is on the slope of Vångaberget by Ivösjön.

Juteboda dates back to the 16th century and is an old farmstead with two well-preserved buildings. One of them is a smoke house with a ridge post. Vånga Church can also be placed in context using two dates: its oldest parts date from the 13th century, while it took on its present form in 1867. Early structural elements and a later redesign thus stand side by side, while Vångaleden, with the iron pits at Tolskepp, brings further historic remains into view.
