Culture and history in Åkarp
Kulturhuset Möllegården is a cultural centre in Åkarp. Its offerings include a library, exhibitions, a hands-on workshop and cultural events. The collections of Charlotte Weibull are also now part of what it offers. The centre’s profile therefore ranges from a library and exhibitions to a workshop and events.
The cultural centre includes a garden laid out in 1886 by garden master Bengt Kjellsson. It once had 103 varieties of roses. This historic figure gives the garden a story of its own, alongside its present-day role in the setting of Möllegården.
Möllegården is one of the original farms in old Åkarp. An early reference mentions the Åkarp mill, recorded in 1673 as “Vaedermöllen ved Aagerup”. Small remains of the once well-known passage grave Ågarpe backe can be found at the corner of Alnarpsvägen and Möllevägen. Another historic building is Gymnastikhuset at Hvilan: built in 1884, it is now considered the oldest surviving building of its kind in Sweden.
There is also a practical point of reference for finding your way around town: Åkarp station is approximately a 10–15-minute walk from Kulturhuset Möllegården.
Sports and outdoor activities
The multisport arena at Dalslundskolan offers opportunities for football, basketball, parkour and floorball. Åkarps idrottsplats may be of interest for other sports: the sports ground can be booked for football, rugby, cricket, athletics, sports days and competitions.
The Åkarp branch of Friluftsfrämjandet offers outdoor activities for children and young people. These include Skogsmulle and the TVM adventure group. If these activities fit your travel plans, check the organisation’s current participation information, as the details may change.
