The Skåneleden Ås till ås trail starts in Åstorp at the foot of Söderåsen and runs to Brösarp in Österlen. Simple campsites with wind shelters and toilets are available along the entire route; maintenance or temporary restrictions may affect the facilities. Check the latest information about the route and campsites before setting out.

Hiking and cycling

The Tingvalla recreation area has six trails for hiking or jogging. There is a service area with showers and toilets nearby; check that it is available before setting off. The Tingvalla–Hålebäck section runs along the northern slope of Söderåsen through deciduous forests and the species-rich Tingvalla ravine. From there, broad paths continue east.

Åstorp’s Hälsans Stig is five kilometres long, illuminated and accessible. The walking path has no stairs, high kerbs or major inclines. Kvidingeprofilen is six kilometres long, combines nature and cultural experiences, and conveys Kvidinge’s historical role in Skåne and the municipality of Åstorp. The Makadamrundan offers a different length: it runs for about 2.7 kilometres around the old quarry in Åstorp, with views of the quarry and towards Helsingborg.

Cyclists also have a specific route to choose from: the Klippan–Åstorp and Åstorp–Ängelholm sections of Cykelleden Skåne pass through the municipality’s natural landscape. Trails and infrastructure may change due to maintenance or route changes; check the latest route information before setting out.

Nature and landscape

Beech forest and pastureland shape the landscape in the municipal Kalvahagen Nature Reserve. The reserve forms an important link between the centre of Åstorp and Söderåsen. It also has a nature playground made of black locust wood and designed as an obstacle course. Kalvahagen thus brings together a natural setting and a purpose-built play area.

Mining remains and historic buildings

Nyvångshögen is a slag heap from the former mining area. Hard coal was mined there from 1907 to 1966. Nyvångs gruvmuseum shows how work was carried out at Sweden’s largest coal mine and how a new mining community developed around a hundred years ago. Check current visiting arrangements before your visit.

Gyllenbielkeska Hospitalet is one of Sweden’s oldest surviving poorhouses. Part of the building, erected in 1729, is used as a museum; the museum section is not staffed at all times. Tomarps Kungsgård tells a different architectural story: originally a Danish medieval castle, the estate was transformed into a Renaissance castle in the 16th century. The two-storey stone building has four wings around a cobbled courtyard. Outside the wings, remnants of the moat are visible as elongated ponds. Parts of a defensive tower built around 1300 remain in the oldest, northern wing.

Art, events and local offerings

Tomarps Kungsgård now serves as an art gallery specialising in Swedish and international contemporary art. During the main season, it hosts music, theatre, workshops and other events. The café serves home-baked bread, sandwiches, pies, pastries, biscuits and light lunch dishes. Each year, Konsthallen also presents a varied exhibition programme featuring national and local contemporary artists.

Kulturhuset Björnen hosts various events for all ages and interests. The venue was originally an EFS church built in 1919. Åstorp railway station is just under a five-minute walk from Kulturhuset Björnen. Perslund hosts annual events such as a Christmas market and craft days; check the latest dates.

For regional food, Sigvard Månsgård’s farm shop offers a basic selection. Meals from the production kitchen can be ordered for collection. Street food is available at markets and fairs; on Sundays, the farm hosts Sommargrillen, serving its own lamb. Seasonal product availability may vary.
