Discover Hallaryd
Accommodation in Hallaryd
Hallaryd combines a distinctive church setting with trails that take in river landscapes, forest and cultural history. For your trip planning, you can choose from several options: get to know the features of the church village, explore one of the routes described here, or focus on cycling and fishing.
The church and church village
The land around Hallaryd Church is hilly and slopes down towards the Helge å and the Lillån. Hallaryds kyrkby has preserved much of the irregular layout of older parish centres. The buildings also shape the character of the place: for the most part, they retain the features they had around the turn of the twentieth century. This makes Hallaryds kyrkby one of the few parish centres of this kind in the county.
The church itself was built of stone in 1862 and 1863 in the Neoclassical style. The plans were drawn up by architect Ludvig Hedin. This lets you combine a visit to the church grounds with a look at the building’s history: the village preserves older features, while the church can be attributed to a clearly identifiable architectural style and a specific period of construction.
Cultural trails and paths by the water
Two kilometres west of Hallaryd, a cultural trail with information boards about Hallarum runs through the area. For a visit focused on cultural history, it offers an alternative to the paths that place greater emphasis on the river and forest. The short Kärleksstigen cultural trail follows the river and starts at Hallaryd Heritage Park.
The Hallaryd nature trail also follows the Helge å, but it additionally passes through the forest. Yellow arrows and markings on the trees show the way. The different descriptions can help you choose: Kärleksstigen is a short cultural trail alongside the river; the Hallaryd nature trail combines river and forest landscapes. In Hallaryd, two exercise loops of 1.5 and 3 kilometres start at the sports ground. Their distances provide a simple guide if you want to include the shorter or longer route in your plans.
Cycling along the Helge å
Hallarydsrundan is an easy 29-kilometre cycling loop along the Helge å. It goes from Småland to Skåne and back. The church in Hallaryd is suggested as a starting point for the loop; it is described as one option, not the only or a definitively designated starting point. At Kornberga kvarn, a stone arch bridge allows cyclists to take a shortcut across the Helge å.
Fishing and Kornberga kvarn
Hallarydsforsen is a fly-fishing stretch about 700 metres long that starts at the road bridge in Hallaryd. Catch and Release applies there. The Hallaryd–Visseltofta fish conservation area also offers the possibility of fly-fishing for trout. Fishing licences for this area can be purchased online or at Älmhult Municipality’s service centre. Check the fishing licence regulations before fishing.
Kornberga kvarn is a lovely spot by the Helge å and is well suited to a stop with a packed picnic. When planning your visit, you can also take the seasonal toilet into account: it is available from 1 May to 30 September. Check whether it is open before your visit.
Hallarydsdagen in June
Hallarydsdagen takes place every year in June. If you want to plan your trip around the event, check the exact date before booking. This lets you include the annual June tradition in your travel plans without assuming a specific day.
